2021 St. Louis Blues Thread

New season, new thread.

NHL and players agreed to 56 game schedule. Season will last from January 13 to May 8. Possibility of games being at neutral sites will be allowed if needed. Teams that didn't make playoffs began training camp as soon as December 31st. Most of the rest began January 3rd. Teams will only play within their own division during the regular season.

Top 4 teams in each division qualify for playoffs. First two rounds are intradivisional. Four teams that advance from 2nd round to Semifinal Round will be seeded by points total in regular season (1 v. 4, 2 v. 3).

Blues will be playing in the Honda West division with Anaheim, Arizona, Colorado, Los Angeles, Minnesota, San Jose, and Vegas.

Gonna be lots of late nights this season for Blues fans though the Blues apparently petitioned the NHL to be put in the Honda West Division due to early start time in eastern time zone for Central division this season. The NHL did give the Blues a break though with having only 10 contests start after 8:00 PM CT for the 28 road games they'll play.

Blues open at Colorado tomorrow night at 9:30 PM on NBCSN. Home opener is set for Monday night vs. San Jose. The Blues end the season with back to back games at Vegas on May 7th and 8th.

Blues have signed Jordan Binnington to a 6 year extension with an AAV of $6 million (which is a jump from his current AAV of $4.4 million). There is trade protection throughout the entirety of the extension and a full no-trade clause for the first 3 years of the contract. He was set to become a UFA this summer.

Blues legend Bobby Plager was killed in a two-car accident on Highway 40 in St. Louis this afternoon. Plager was 78 and was one of the original Blues that played for the franchise when it began back in 1967, playing 615 games over 11 seasons in St. Louis. One of my favorite recent moments involving Plager took place at his jersey retirement ceremony back in 2017, seen here:
