Unfortunately, you aren’t an NBA GM or head coach, so the fact you’d take a Shaw/Wilt type really doesn’t impact the will Kofi make it in NBA debate.

I hope Kofi finds a spot in the league. The GMs spoke with him not being drafted, but there is still an avenue — albeit harder — to the league. Just have to wait and see what happens.
That is fact sir! My opinion on it is about "what in the hell is wrong with these guys?" In regards to not drafting Kofi based on these new views of what a center is supposed to be these days, and whether they can help your team or not with a back to the basket, play in the post game. But yes. You're absolutely correct. They spoke loud and clear. I just absolutely do not agree. And to be honest I think they will regret it. The team that gives Kofi a true opportunity will see what Illinois fans saw for 3 years. I-L-L baby!

Today's NBA is not about position any more.

5: There is no "Center". It's now a "Stretch 5".
4: Take the "power" and "forward" out. It is now a "Stretch 4".
3: There is no such thing as a "small forward". It is a "Long, Athletic Wing".
2: Forget "Shooting guard". They all can shoot. It is now a "Combo Guard".
1: "Point Guards" still exist, but they are endangered species. They are being crowded out by "Point Forwards" and "Long Athletic Wings"

If this year's draft taught me anything, if you are not 6'-5" to 6'-11" and a long, lean, and athletic 3-point threat, (even if you are a project), you have a slim chance of being drafted.

the success of players consistently making shots from 24 ft -30 ft has undoubtedly changed the pro game in many ways

Kofi did have some fits against koloko’s length and got blocked a couple times, so I agree to an extent, but Kofi really bullied him in the 2nd half and went for 13 & 13 lol.
Lol, I mean the guys career was amazing. When a 13/13 half can be argued as one of his worst games.

Selfishly I wish he would have stayed five years. Oh well, good luck big man.

The 3 players you named as dragging the average down all had their best FT shooting years as freshman and regressed.

Damonte regressed each of his 5 years incrementally from 71% to 53%.
Demonte was basically a 70% FT shooter his entire career until last season.
Coleman only took 19 FTs his freshman year. That’s not enough data points to be statistically significant, regardless his conversion rate wasn’t much different. Kofi shot 67% his freshman year, had a lousy soph campaign from the line & got back to approximately where he was previously last season.
This idea that coaching is to blame for poor FT shooting is asinine. FTs are a mental game. There is only so much a coach can do.
TF shot 65% his freshman year & was easily over 80% his last three. Did he have different coaches?

Stop it sir. That's literally like the only two times Shaq ever did that. 😂 But great find. 👏 Shaq was not a shooter and was a traditional big with back to the basket game. His play style was the same as Kofi style. That was my point. And just because people weren't privy to see Kofi do it in game does not mean he can't do that also. Same with shooting. Check the 3:10 mark in this video.
I wish people would please stop comparing Shaq with Kofi. Shaq would eat Kofi alive probably even now at age 50. Kofi will never have the explosiveness, quickness, & sheer power that Shaq displayed in his game.

If Shaq had shot 55% from the free throw line, he would have beaten out Jordan as league scoring champion at least once. He was unstoppable.

Play style was comparable. Not comparing the talent levels. Just to clarify.

Shaq played (and scored) from the high post way more than Kofi did. KC was almost entirely a P&R and low post player at Illinois.

We barely even had anyone who knew how to pass into the post to Kofi most of the time. And if you watched the video I posted earlier, "a day in the life of Kofi Cockburn" you would see how they coached him to play. Doesn't mean that was all he was capable of. Players do what their coaches say so they can play. Kofi played his role. He let the shooters shoot, and he dominated the paint as asked. You think Damonte wasn't capable of more than he showed in games? He played his role.

You can't be serious.

As I warily weigh into the Great Kofi Conniption of '22, I have to agree with him. The few times Ben Verdonk was in the game with Kofi, it was 'oh wait, that's how it's done'. Jake was pretty reliable at it too. Everyone else passing in was a bit of a crap shoot. Fortunately Kofi was such a massive target, had good position much of the time, and had decent hands, so it covered up any hesitancy from the passers.

Agreed! However I also think that's why the game is suffering in my opinion. It's getting really hard to watch. There are some exceptionally talented players like Stephen Curry. But watching players throw up bad shot after bad shot is not fun. Watching 7 footers play on the perimeter instead of the paint where their height is an advantage is also exhausting and disappointing. Every team is trying to copycat golden state warriors and wonder why they keep losing. Those types of talented players are not a dime a dozen. Stephen is a generational player. Klay also. Bigs miss more than they make from outside. Being able to make them 3's is great. But being able to rebound and score in the post is a lot more reliable for a team.
