This seems like a no-brainer to me. So glad they got this done.
We (the collective we, not just you redwing) hashed this out a year ago, I just completely disagree. Makes the tournament way too long and who cares about Wednesday games with the bottom 6 or 8 teams playing each other. Obviously some here and the TV networks disagree.

Because it’s the B1G tournament, so all teams from the B1G should be invited to participate. You might not want to watch the extra games, but I’m sure the fans of those teams would.

Yeah, if anything, it might make sense to split it into two weekends if there ends up being 6 rounds (i.e. keep the same format of 4 games per day until semis/finals). If you want to give the top 4 teams a bye to the second weekend, just have them play each other that weekend in preparation.

Has there been a decision on how the rounds will look? If so, a pointer please?

I disagree. The ACC didn't have their bottom 3 teams in the standings make it last season and I doubt many fans were that upset about not being able to see NC State, Boston College, or Miami in their conference tournament. Many mid and lower major conferences don't let every team in their conference tournaments. If you want your team to not have to worry about that, then be better.

"The bottom four teams will play in Chicago’s United Center on March 10 (a Tuesday), followed by four games on Wednesday. Seeds 5-8 join the action on Thursday, while the top four seeds get a double-bye into Friday’s quarterfinals" link

Thanks. For the visually inclined:

Why would anyone who buys the ticket package for the entire tournament want these games??? Simply additional cost and little to no benefit. The Wednesday games were already bad with low interest.

I love this. sometimes a bad team just needs a great and a reset. some of my favorite memories are of the 99 Illinois team going on run in the big ten tourney after having a miserable regular season. it sparked a great run of years for Illinois and gave me and the program hope!

Please let me know when the NCAA tournament expands to 300+ teams, thanks.

Tournament berths are earned by performance, not by membership.

Those final regular season weekend games prior to the tournament are usually some of the highest rated. Tournament seeding and regular season championship is often up for grabs. I think I would be hard to swap those games for bottom tier tournament games.

Good deal for northwestern fans

If the NCAA won't push the Tournament back at all, I think the Big Ten should start its season earlier. If a team goes on a miracle run in our tournament, there's just no way they get very far in March Madness, they'd be exhausted.

Actually, the top 8 teams get a double bye. The top 4 teams get a triple bye.

I kind of like that idea that at the start of March every single team in the country should have a chance to make the tournament if they run the table in their conference tourney.

Obviously all the tournaments would have to let everyone in to make that happen.

Then why have 15 teams in Big Tourney? Top four should be enough . You want in, earn it right?
Yes. Never said four but you won’t find any post by me saying fifteen either. Pretty sure I argued against that a year ago.

In an 18-team league I think twelve is best. Still have the top 2/3s in but if you can’t beat that low bar then you should not get in.

If you want me to pick an extreme, again I’d say four or eight beats fifteen or eighteen. But twelve feels better.

Eighteen teams in a format running from Tuesday to Sunday is way too much for a conference tournament. Just my opinion and I respect those who feel differently.

Not sure about this but I think 1 of the Kemba Walker teams with UConn I think won 5 and went on to win the natty.
