I sure wish I could read a thread about basketball and the games currently happening.
I didn't get to watch the game so I asked my nephew what happen and he said Supposedly this --- you can hear Turgeon on TV yelling at Howard 'Don't hang the banner because your banners come down.' (Final 4 banners from the early 90s?) If that is what got under Howard's skin the opposing fans will have a field day with him during the next basketball season.Dickinson also spent a chunk of time barking and flexing at the Maryland bench in their first game, to the extent that the commentators brought it up.
I'm sure that has only gotten worse.
Purdue going as far as Ivey can carry them.Worry that Ivey reminds me of Ayo. Purdue will be a load next year.
Continuing pattern of the team that played the previous day getting out to an initial lead being used to the football dome environment, then around halftime the rested higher seed starts getting into the game and taking over. Happened with Minnesota, happened with PSU, happened with Maryland this morning, and now happened in the first half with Ohio State.
So I wouldn't be surprised that in the early evening game, if Rutgers gets off to the fast start.
Speaking of corporate sponsorships, SMU is currently leading Cincinnati in the Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinal, and Oklahoma and Baylor tip off at 6:30 ET in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship semifinal. Georgia Tech gets a day off in the New York Life ACC Tournament, and Colorado and Utah play late tonight in the Pac-12 Tournament presented by New York Life.
What could go wrong!?Clearly the NCAA should've just gone with the ol' "roll out the balls on the deck of an aircraft carrier and let 'er rip" approach.
I laughed, not proud of it.On the other hand I believe John Chaney was a big time coach and he threatened to kill another coach... after a game. I mean it was Calipari, so he may have been justified, but still. Thick skin is clearly not required... see also Coach K and Jim Boheim.
Chaney also choked another coach a decade earlier...then sent an enforcer in against St Joe's and a kid got his arm broken.I laughed, not proud of it.
This. This Howard stuff is interesting. Coaches don't just tattle on their opposition for the hell of it. Turgeon pulling out the 34 years card makes me think there's a lot more to this than just what happened today. The rumor is that Howard had been talking to the Maryland players/bench in the first 2 games and seems to have continued in this one. If he's doing it to Maryland, I'm sure he's doing it to other teams too, and longtime college coaches are like a fraternity. Howard's the new kid and he's stomping all over normal decorum.
“At the end of the day, first, I want to apologize to my team, which I did in the locker room for my actions. That’s not the way how you handle situations like that under adverse moments. You can’t let your emotions get the best of you."Watching a snippet of Howard's presser on ESPN.com, he's got a lot of words trying to make an excuse for being an ahole. I couldn't find an easy link, but here's a scUM website with it.
Juwan Howard explains what led to his ejection vs. Maryland
As intriguing as Michigan basketball’s ability to rally from being down 12 to win by 13 against Maryland, that’s not what anyone is talking about in the aftermath of the Wolverines̵…wolverineswire.usatoday.com
According to Turgeon, this has been boiling all season. The Terps and Wolverines faced off twice in the regular season with both games ending in Michigan blowouts. There was a lot of chirping from freshman Hunter Dickinson toward the Maryland bench in those games, dating back to his recruitment history.Dickinson plays with a chip on his shoulder claiming Turgeon elected not to recruit the local five-star big man. Most local reporters dispute Dickinson's take on his recruitment, but Turgeon has tried to avoid engaging with the big man.
The kids want to play. I guarantee you. There's just as much chance it happens during the NCAA's now, if they stop the B1G tourney...why would they continue with the NCAA's?Cancel the rest of the BTT games now, and hermetically seal the players for the next week. I'm serious. What's to gain from risking exposure now? I suspect 100 out of 100 players would rather sit this weekend then risk getting knocked out of the dance due to the virus. This is a potential nightmare situation. I really dislike that, when it matters most, the Illini are out of the bubble that worked for them for eight months.
