wait and then smith just tripped their guy no call??? wow usc totally hosed in this one.
That rule needs to change. Any part of the backboard should be out of bounds.Bottom is ok, back is out of bounds.
wait so back of backboard is out of bounds, bottom is in bounds.....what about top of backboard? how was our MSU game called out then?Bottom is ok, back is out of bounds.
GummiesBill Raftery already looking like he had a couple to take the edge off in between the Creighton and UConn games.![]()

if the ball hits the bottom of the backboard it's supposed to be a turnover. this also came after they reviewed it??? what?
Even the front part? That rule needs to change. Any part of the backboard should be out of bounds.
Oops you’re right. I should clarify any of the bottom and the back of the backboard. The top is fine as long as the ball skims along it, just not over it.Even the front part?
- In Bounds:
The front, sides, top, and bottom of the backboard are all part of the playing area.
- Out of Bounds:
The ball is considered out of bounds when it touches the backboard supports, the back of the backboard, or any object above the playing court.
- Examples:
If a ball bounces off the rim and rolls along the top of the backboard, it is still in play. If the ball rolls along the top and falls into the basket, it is a made shot; if it falls off the back, it is out of bounds.
- Fan-shaped Backboards:
While fan-shaped backboards are rare, if a ball goes over the backboard from front to back or back to front, it is legal and not a violation.
So why was Boswell's play in the MSU game ruled out? Wait Will had a wide open lane for a layup rebound that was a huge call.According to the rules I just looked up, the top, bottom and sides are in play. The back and any supporting structure is out of bounds. I would have sworn balls that go on top of the backboard have been ruled out of bounds…but I was wrong.
That said, the phantom foul that followed with only 3 seconds on the shot clock was an incredibly bad,
game-changing call.
EDIT: See Pasadena already posted the rules.
No more layups off the backboard!Even the front part?
Great question. B1G refs is the only answer I can come up with.So why was Boswell's play in the MSU game ruled out? Wait Will had a wide open lane for a layup rebound that was a huge call.
I know. I was just being an a** for the fun of it.Oops you’re right. I should clarify any of the bottom and the back of the backboard. The top is fine as long as the ball skims along it, just not over it.
Boswell’s shot went over the plane of the backboard. That is out of bounds.Great question. B1G refs is the only answer I can come up with.
