Not many came. Locals didn’t show and schools didn’t bring kids or large contingents. Benet brought more than Warren if that tells you anything. I heard they split up the student sections and too big of reserved space for media. It sounded good on tv to me, but people saying zero environment. I guess you can add that people felt nickel and dimed with zero environment. Felt like they were on an island at SFC compared to Peoria.
I personally like it in Champaign.

I was at the 1A and 2A semis on Thursday, 1A/2A/3A third place on Friday, and 1A/2A Championship games on Saturday. The crowds were okay all things considered. Locals not showing up doesn't surprise me too much since the nearest schools that made it in 1A/2A were from Peoria and 3A was from Chatham. Lanark Eastland had a decent size crowd, especially for the title game on Saturday. I'd disagree with the whole "schools didn't bring kids" argument to an extent as the only one I can really recall from the games I saw that didn't would be Chicago Dyett (maybe?). I don't think they really split up the student sections among the schools unless they did it for the 4A games, which I didn't watch. I'm not sure what the reserved space for media issue as it's not really any different than what I've usually seen for most of the games in Champaign.

The third place games were poorly attended but that's not really that surprising. The games aren't aired on over-the-air TV anymore (only streaming on the NFHS Network), and haven't for a few years, which I'm okay with as only the diehards or the fans of one or the other schools playing were usually watching the games on TV anyway.

The biggest issue I would potentially have was how much the IHSA didn't really stick to the schedule that much on Thursday. They got so behind with tip times as the day went on that the Chatham Glenwood/Chicago DePaul College Prep game that was supposed to start around 8:15 PM, didn't get started until after 9:00 PM. And it was already gonna be a tough turnaround for the loser of that game, having to play in the 3A 3rd Place Game at approximately 1:00 PM on Friday. Made even tougher when the game on Thursday doesn't get over until well after 10:00 PM.

Been out of town the past couple days so getting caught up on the NCAA Tournament bids clinched the last few days:

-America East: Bryant defeated Maine 77-59. It is the Bulldogs' 2nd NCAA Tournament appearance with the other coming in 2022.
-MEAC: Norfolk State defeated South Carolina State 66-65. It is the Spartans' 4th NCAA Tournament appearance, with the last appearance in 2022.
-Mountain West: Colorado State defeated Boise State 69-56. It is the Rams' 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and their 2nd straight. Boise State is going to have a stressful Selection Sunday as they are firmly on the bubble and are seen as either the last team in or first team out.
-Big XII: Houston defeated Arizona 72-64.
-Big East: St. John's defeated Creighton 82-66. Red Storm win their first Big East tournament title since 2000.
-MAAC: Mount St. Mary's defeated Iona 63-49. It is the Mountaineers' seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2021. Iona had upset 1 seed Quinnipiac in the semifinals, leading to another NIT auto-bid being clinched.
-MAC: Akron defeated Miami (OH) 76-74. It is the Zips' 7th NCAA Tournament appearance and their 2nd straight.
-ACC: Duke defeated Louisville 73-62.
-CUSA: Liberty defeated Jacksonville State 79-67. It is the Flames' sixth NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2021.
-SWAC: Alabama State defeated Jackson State 60-56. It is the Hornets' 4th NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2011.
-Big West: UC San Diego defeated UC Irvine 75-61. It is the Tritons' 1st NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, having only been D-I since 2020, becoming full D-I in July 2024.
-WAC: Grand Canyon defeated 1 seed Utah Valley 89-92. It is the Lopes' fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and their 3rd straight. Also means another NIT auto-bid was clinched.

This SEC game would be over if B10 officials were officiating. Nobody would have any eligibility left and fouled out. B10, pay attention, this is how you get flow to a game and let the players determine the outcome.

It's how the NCAA tournament will be officiated and why I kills the B10 each year

On pace to shoot a combined 82 3s and pull down 94 combined rebounds. Needless to say, they are both shooting like crap. Halftime score 23 to 21 lol.

I think the 2 games in 2 days or 3 games in 3 days makes for bad basketball. You can tell both MU's & Wisconsin's legs are dead. All of their shots are short. This is the same excuse I'm using for our poor defense and lack of effort in our game against Maryland. At least it makes me feel better 😌
