I really hope the NCAA Basketball gods are satisfied with the upsets today and that their appetite won't require the loss of the only #4 seed team that plays tomorrow.

There have been a few years where every 4-seed has won. 2014, 2015 and 2017 most recently. Please let's add 2022 to that list.

For all the complaining on this board, JG was a good coach. His problem was swinging for the fences on point guards, and not having a plan B.

If Jalen Brunson’s family had been more up front, we would have landed Jawun Evans.

Yada, yada, yada… multiple years of 3rd place BIG finishes and some Sweet 16’s.

Brad is better… no question… but Groce was one or two bridesmaids away from a 12 year run here.

Edit: his real problem was loyalty to assistant coaches who couldn’t land those PG’s. Put Ayo on JG teams, and I promise his coaching looks a lot better.
Groce got Illinois to 1 tournament in 5 years, did not recruit well and left the program a mess. How does that make him a good coach?

I wouldn't say he is a good coach for the University of Illinois. John Groce has a number of strengths (character, x's and o's), but he has weaknesses as well (recruiting and roster construction, a bit of naivete). Some folks are probably recalling Coach Groce's significant strengths. Overall package is not what Illinois needed (or ever will need) though.
