It is truly the ultimate college basketball Faustian bargain. I always thought if we could just get a championship I'd be fine with whatever happened next, but man, his resume makes me completely rethink that. It's not just the horrific tourney losses, for which there are just so many, but it's the night-in and night-out slog. You know the second that ball is tipped if any sort of fun breaks loose, your team is gonna lose. And if you go down by double digits, you have no chance of clawing your way back into it. Even despite the regular season success, being a UVA fan would be maddening. At what point do they finally decide it's too much and fire him?
... not long after the point that enough prospective talent decides, after watching notionally-televised abominations like last night's game, to go elsewhere, and fans lose interest. I mean they're stilling winning lots of ACC games, and filling seats at the JPJ Arena. But it's a puzzle.

Why did R Pitino leave/asked to leave/fired... at Minnesota?
In his final season he was 6-14 in conference, 0-10 on the road.

Shut up and retire already you gnome.

That confluence of events also underscored Izzo's concerns that too many small schools could steal bids from better teams in power leagues.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has been among the influential voices suggesting the NCAA tournament should end the practice of awarding automatic bids to each conference champion -- typically determined by the winner of the league's conference tournament -- in favor of more selections by the committee.

Izzo, who played in college at Division II Northern Michigan, said he's always been a fan of "the little guys" but that from a business perspective, squeezing out big-name programs like Michigan State presents problems. Izzo, whose teams have made 26 consecutive NCAA tournaments, noted that 20 of the 32 Division I conferences had a team win the league tournament that wasn't the regular-season champion.

"What's happening now, everybody likes the upsets on the first weekend, but I'm not sure moving on that's what's best for the game," Izzo said. "I think it's got to be looked at seriously."
These people ought to be ashamed of themselves.

You know, I'm not so sure I really love the little guys winning necessarily. I do like close games and contrasts in styles. It's just that sometimes that includes the little guys.

Fully endorsed.

Though I must admit I'm still seething over the fact the MSU drew a 9-seed wasn't forced into a play-in game.

Wow. 😮
Izzo was fiery, cantankerous, and a loose cannon before. But he’s just utterly insufferable now. How you get to this level of whininess and entitlement is beyond me.

Tom if you wanna qualify for the tournament…how bout you don’t underachieve all season?? Lol 😂 geez

Clearly, he just isn’t as dominant as he used to be and it pisses ..him off…plain and simple. His stance on this would be nothing but completely hilarious if there wasn’t a slight possibility/off-chance that the actual decision-makers might let this cry-baby elf and the rest of the old guard have some say here…

(Hopefully not. But, if you take away the conference winners getting bids…you might as well just scrap it…IMO and have a mini tourney for a handful of Mega Conference$) Heck, let’s just go the full nine and turn this thing into a College Football-type model…I’m sure everybody would love that.

Anyway, the bottom line obviously $peaks loude$t…5-10 years from now…who knows?

The posturing of $leazy, Sankey SEC suit guy…does not surprise me…I just hope he’s in the minority.

I was just coming here to post the same thing. This has been some really bad basketball.

Colorado has a huge body under the basket, yet they are somehow incapable of rebounding the ball.
Yeah, I usually pick a last four in to win a game in the bracket but these four teams are some of the worst. I'm pretty upset if I'm Indiana State...
