How did FAU get this bad? They were nothing like this early in the season.
If FAU loses this, this was a wildly disappointing season for them and should give every school pause on bringing in Dusty May. This team is way too talented to not win either its regular season or conference tourney, let alone lose to a short-handed NW team. Other than one good season last year, I'm not sure what about his resume is all that inviting. He went 19-15 and 11-7 in the conference two years ago. The three seasons before that are bad. He brought back everyone from last year and got worse. If I'm any sort of decent school, I'm not going anywhere near this resume.

Nah. Growing up here, I hate that they have the Chicago's Big Ten Team BS. I take that personally. I want them to crash and burn... but only as soon as they beat FAU since I did pick them for the upset today.

FAU is still riding last year's success
I just enjoy making fun of that tagline by inserting random north and northwest suburbs in place of "Chicago" to highlight how absurd the line is.

Last time I joked about it, I think I was up to "Libertyville's Big Ten Team".

My 21 year old son has always wondering why we root for Big 10 teams in the tournament. I know we get more $$$ as Big 10 teams advance, but he has a point that you'd never root for an NFL divisional rival in the playoffs. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about why you root for Big 10 teams this time of the year. I'm starting to lean more towards his perspective.

Northwestern has completely dictated the pace of this game. I'm surprised yet not surprised having watched them play a lot this season

What Northwestern has done this season after losing Berry and Nicholson is simply nothing short of amazing. Buie., Barnhizer, Langborg, and Martinelli have all stepped up big time throughout the season

I don't think Dusty May is to blame. The players are a victim of their own success. They slept walk throughout the entire season much like an NBA team as far as I'm concerned although the game with the Illini was highly entertaining. They also had a highly entertaining win over Arizona

Does Martinelli really need to flail his elbow/arm out like that while trying to grab the board?

I feel like D1 players are crafty enough to know if they look away from their target, they're might get away with elbows like that not being called F1/F2s

I’m with your son on this. I don’t get it and never will

What if I told you his players just seem to be regressing to what a Dusty May team is, pretty darn mid. Which is entirely the issue with Dusty May.

On the replay, he definitely waited to throw that elbow back, it wasn't like his arm was restrained and suddenly released from tension.

I don't think taking a team to a Final 4 is mid. That doesn't happen by accident. Taking a team to the Final 4 is what catapulted Jim Larranaga, Shaka Smart, Brad Stevens, and Porter Moser. Porter Moser may be in over his head. Hard to say Dusty May is or isn't

It was the correct call.....but they completely screwed the stoppage. Kitties had a easy bucket taken away.
