St peters played well and purdue didn't but to me this game illustates what the game has devolved into the past 3 years - st peters fouled 3-6 times most possessions with reach-ins, bumps, pushes, arm wraps, hit the arm .... and that has been the case in so many games the past two years - but everyone has just accepted that constant 'small' fouls are no-fouls as the new 'rules'. To me, its not enjoyable to watch ....the constancy and the inconsistency are irritating/infuriating. Aggressive defense and agressive rebounding are euphisms for no blood no foul .... . whatever happend to freedom of movement and the defender has a right to their space. i've been wanting to post my complaint since last years tourney ....
As long as it's called the same for both sides, it doesn't bother me that reach ins and hand checks aren't being called. When it's inconsistent a la the UNC-Baylor game last week that allowed the Bears to get back into it, then I have a problem

Do you ever wonder if Gunther was not so butt hurt over Bill Self where we would be now? I mean we could have payed him so much he never would have left, but typical Illinois it was a business decision that was wrong. 8 elite 8’s with Kansas that could have been Illinois.

But almost as many early exits for Self. Took a miracle for him to win his one national championship after D Rose missed some free throws

JMO, but he likely would not have been able to operate in his normal manner here. IL is not one of the select few that can just blatantly flout the NCAA.

Nah. Arkansas takes them down tomorrow. Mark it.
With every fiber of my being, and reliance on the universe granting what is good, pure and just, I hope you're right. The Scheyer Shadow Krzyzewski regime can't begin soon enough.

Ya when a team has the reputation for being aggressive defensively with their hands it seems like the refs are afraid they will be blowing their whistles all night. They usually end up letting them get away with a lot of fouls. Have seen it over the years at the high school level also.

I was seriously rooting for Purdue
This loss should not be acceptable.

They took the ball out of iveys hands most of 2nd half.

Painter has some esplaining to do

Nice season, Purdue. Show them what they’ve won, Gene…

Self was going to Kansas no matter what. Along with Illinois facing the death penalty with Self at the helm. The NCAA would have no problem throwing the book at Illinois.

Almost feels like UCLA has 12 minutes here and that's all that's standing between Duke-Carolina in the Final Four in Coach K's last year (did anybody know that it was Coach K's last year?)....that would have to go down as the most hyped game since what, Bird vs. Magic?

He turned it over for 6 times and had a 33% shooting percentage. This game could negatively influence his draft as the Loyola game did for Ayo last year.

UNC and UCLA going off, pretty impressive

I also think the 2005 team wouldn’t have been as good under Self. Obviously needed some luck to come back vs. Arizona but the overall season would have had some more L’s and maybe a 2 or 3 seed. Even though Weber struggled later on, his offense was perfect for that team.
