Before the tournament started, I told my wife we were going to New Orleans if Illinois is in the final four.
Yesterday, at an axe throwing place, she says, “Since you said that we were going to New Orleans if Illinois made the final four, does that mean we are going if Kansas makes it?”
For a moment I thought maybe I’ll just walk up to the target and you might as well bury that hatchet in my back. Instead I just said no, I wouldn’t be able to get off work without 45 days notice. Then she asked me how I was going to get off if Illinois made it. Obviously that’s different and my colleagues would understand and cover for me! Lol.
I hope Roy Williams comes out of retirement for two games to beat Duke and then faces Self and KU in the championship...where they both lose and Illinois is somehow retroactively awarded the championship in 2005. Only seems fitting given all of the events that unfolded around Illinois and those two programs. And while we’re at it, maybe Bruce retired after that game and we somehow hire BU about a decade sooner.
