Gonzaga only played 7 people and got 4 points off the bench. Baylor has to have the edge in that department. I do believe the Bears have a better defense. Should be a great game. I haven't looked forward to a final this much since we were in the final.

Great game by UCLA. Would have won if they had someone to match up with Timme.
Why didn't they put Etienne in???

He lost in two "Final 4's" this year.

as a BB fan in general, this was a great game, a classic.....

as an Illini fan .....2005 Illini vs Az
Griffey's last second layup defeating the # 1 ranked loosiers
Kaufman's 3 pter beating the squwaks
many of Ayo's closing shots

I have a vested interest in my beloved.......last night it was just a great tourney game....

I still ache terribling from the Loyola game results and still play the "" what if """" game for this year's tourney....

Me too on "what ifs"" I know had we made it this far... the first semi final game would have been much more entertaining with Illini in place of Houston.

If the tourney showed anything, it’s that the pac 12 was a really conference
Agreed ...UCLA loses to USC, Colo, Oregon and Ore State in the last 4 Conf games and gets to F4 and does this in semifinal? Are you kidding me?

My bracket picking has always had bias for end of season W streaks. This run UCLA had crushes that approach/theory.

gotta feel for Bruins 3rd buzzer beater loss of the season.
But UCLA also won two OT games in the NCAA tourney. So they're still on the plus side of close games.

Now with that said, I don't think any other team in the field of 68 could have beaten either Gonzaga or UCLA last night --- given the way they played on that one particular night. Just an awesome game!!!

On the other hand......

I've taken just the opposite approach for the past 30 years. I try to never get sucked into "hot streaks" to close out the regular season (including conference tourney play).

That is what makes the tourney so special. Any team that plays out of it’s mind for one night can beat any other team.

That game is the absolute definition of neither team deserved to lose.

Also a lot of respect to Cronin. I didn’t believe he could instill his toughness into the west coast glitz and glam. He proved me wrong. UCLA is one of the most mentally and physically tough teams I’ve seen. They earned and deserve everything this tournament brought them, except the loss last night.

Duke Kentucky 92 was way better than this game.
The ONLY two games I can think of that were better than that were IL-Arizona and Villanova -G'town. That 1985 game was a classic for all time.

Why is that?
Gonzaga winning on Monday night makes them the first undefeated National Champ in 45 years, since the Loosiers did in (I believe) 1976. They want to stay the most recent example of unblemished success, not start to hear about Gonzaga being the most recent example.

Edit: I see that a couple of folks beat me to the answer.

Remember all the talk years ago about how college basketball was going to be ruined when young talented guys could leave early for the pros?

And yet, how did that turn out? Sure, there’s been some adjusting. But this year for example, except for the unexpected early washout of The Beloved, has anyone been disappointed with this year’s tournament? Competitive games, a few upsets, and a titanic battle here and there. And no talk about how no one watches college ball anymore.

And the pros? Sure, these guys are super gifted athletes, but doesn’t anyone remember ‘Defense’ anymore? And the trite old concept of... ‘Traveling’? Both teams over 100 points in Third Quarter? College ball – with all of its challenges – still resembles traditional basketball that we all grew up loving.

And – much as it might be painful to say – the State of Indiana has done a creditable job of hosting this year’s ball fest. Now we can get back to how we usually feel about them...
