Alan Griffin suspended 2 games

BS, if he had wanted to hurt that kid it would have looked a lot different. He would have used a lot more force with that foot, he held way back.
What exactly was he trying to do then? He went out of his way to step on his chest intentionally. It was a bush league move by one of our guys. I can't understand some people standing up for it. If Haarms stomped on Ayo, what would your reaction be? Pretty sure the same people would be calling for him to be suspended for more than 2 games.
Its 15% of the Big Ten season. For something that was pretty innocuous and wasn’t very malicious. He didn’t stomp, punch, intend to injury. Nobody threw a fit when he was removed and he even apologized after the game.

Underwood is 100% right. 3 games is insane. He obviously couches that better than I am, but he is as furious at this as we should be. It’s horsesh-t and would never happen if this was Cassius Winston or Xavier Tillman or Zavier Simpson

It was a bush league move. If Alan did the same thing at a bar, he would have been arrested and suspended 8 games.

Um, I had either forgotten or never had seen the Laettner incident. What Griffin did was worse. Laettner didn't put a bit of weight on it. He basically tapped him with his foot. It was still monumentally dumb.

Its very frustrating the B1G took 2 days to come up with a punishment while the team practiced assuming he would be playing after a day passed with no punishment.

Just go back and watch the play, he could have used a LOT more force. Bush League, yes. Stupid, yes. Trying to make a point, Yep. Let me repeat the 1st 2 (insert here). [Does this sound like I'm standing up for his action? I don't think anyone has, please go back and quote them] But I've been around athletics all of my life, athlete, coach, official. very interested spectator. I have seen people who were trying to harm. This was absolutely not an attempt to injure. If you've ever been "stomped" on, I think you would know the difference.

I don't care how many games KU/KSU players were banned, it doesn't matter so stop bringing it up.

Griffin purposely stepped on an opponent laying on the ground. It was dirty and he deserved a suspension. Take off the orange colored glasses.
I think it does matter how the KU/KSU matter was handled. Same night, worse situation. They should be compared, and it's logical to me to think AG should be given a lighter punishment than those involved in that all out fight.

BU seems to be a no nonsense type of coach. If he thinks it’s excessive then maybe it is. I was thinking more along the lines of a one game suspension myself. Sounds like the commissioner is trying to make a statement and the KU/KSU thing probably didn’t help.

1. If we had lost to Purdue this would bother me but considering they took care of business it doesnt bother me at all
2. In the 2nd half of Purdue game it seemed like they just skipped over AG rotation in the line up, and everybody seemed to be in a better rythm

Are you serious? The B1G offices would be ecstatic to have a reinvigorated Illini Nation. And we're gonna give it to 'em.
No I wasn't serious - called sarcasm. However, as someone who is still royally pissed off about what the Big10 did to Dave Wilson, I have little faith in fair treatment from the conference.

Stupid move by the kid, but people make mistakes. The punishment is excessive in my opinion, but if that is the new big ten policy going forward that is fine. It will be very interesting to watch them uphold this fairly in the future. Does pushing or taking a swing at someone warrant a 2 game suspension or is it only if you use your feet?
Either way it was stupid and sometimes you just have to face the punishment no matter how unfair it may seem.

I have been one of the biggest critics of BU but I love this statement. Suspending him essentially 3 games is kind of ridiculous and I’m glad he stuck up for his player so emphatically. Suspending him one game to send a message would have absolutely sufficed.
Mentioned by others....every flagrant 2 in B10 will be scrutinized against this penalty going forward. I think BUs comments are probably applauded by most B10 coaches....B10 coaches should'nt want relatively minor flagrant 2s to habitually result in 2 game suspensions. If Stefanovic had been injured I can see grounds for B10 intervention, but..

I'm curious if B10 office delay was waiting to see if there was a team imposed suspension,... and they gave a couple days for that. I believe a 1 game team imposed suspension without B10 intervention would be a better way to handle this.

For those of you that might skip past it, or not go back and read it, I really, really like Brad Underwood's response. Absolutely hit the correct tone. (And actually, by definition should have been a Flagrant 1, but note Coach agreed with the officials decision to kick him out of that game early, for those of you that had a coach, that means more than what the Big Ten might do, having had that relationship as both a coach and an athlete).
+1 on your sentiments

Alan deserved the 2 game suspension and it should have come from Underwood. I love the way he plays but you must be under control. That move was playground ball. He is a student athlete at the U of I and should be held to high standards. Now TJ needs to get in the games and show he fits. This can benefit us in the long run. Having both AG and TJ coming off the bench would make us a even stronger team which we are striving to be. DMW needs to be in the gym shooting
a few hundred shots a day between classes. He could shoot at Manual. He will never be Frankie, but he could contribute 6-8 and we would be worlds ahead.
The other teams do not even guard him so we are playing 4 on 5 when he in the game.

in the FL state game... as Dan annoying Dakich loved to point out... Griffin had a little bump with their star. it's good for him to get a reminder that this is not the path. he's been doing so well. stay on that path

I thought 1 additional game was appropriate since he basically missed the whole game he was ejected from. Owell

I doubt we see more Tevian unless there is severe foul trouble. He hasn't done anything on the court to warrant more minutes. I think we just see more Kipper.

Probably right on more Kipper......but hope TJ gets a few more minutes and makes the most of the opportunity

I don't think he intended to hurt the Purdue player as he didn't put his weight into it.
I simply didn't see it that way. He totally pushed off towards the other end of the court off of his chest in my view.

I agree he probably did not say "I am going to step on this guy, but I won't hurt him." Its like throwing a punch and missing, the punch was still thown." It's unsportsmanlike conduct. Seems to me if Underwood would of suspended him or said he will not play the next game, the Big 10 would not have stepped in. KSU-KU brawl could of shaped perceptions.

Would like to see more TJ but he’s on a very short leash. He really hasn’t had time in game to get into the flow and make a few mistakes. But it’s hard to justify the risk at this point in letting him settle in. Perhaps in our next home game blowout.

I have no problem with the number of games. I was expecting 1 or 2 games, so seems about right. I think that is what BU would have given him if B1G hadn't stepped in. And given the Kansas- Kansas St. fight, I think the B1G felt they had to get involved. Hopefully AG learns from it (I think he will), and it doesn't negatively impact the outcomes of the next two games.
