Curbelo will need to play within the offense when he returns but his contribution makes this team entirely different and raises the ceiling much higher. We will need his creativity and ability to get to the basket when we aren't hitting threes. We don't need him to score, we just need him to facilitate and run the offense and find his place within it. He's a special talent and by all accounts, a special person and ambassador for our team and community.

Fears would be Curbelo 2.0 without the flare and play-making ability. Undersized pass first PG that has the ability to finish for their size but lacks real range. In that view, I understand why the staff is holding out for Boswell.

I almost asked this a couple of weeks ago but decided not to then. It seems to fit now in this thread. After watching the recording of the Kansas State game it was obvious that AC had two (or possibly three) large red whelps on the back of his neck. Do others remember seeing this and does anyone know what that might mean in relationship to the injury he is dealing with?
Cupping therapy. Used by some to manage post-concussive symptoms (but not limited to that particular usage).

Fair point but this didn't seem to be an issue last year, when Curbelo also was a bad shooter. Our adjusted offense per Kenpom is a little worse at 11th this year, 8th last year. Our adjusted defense is 38th this year and was 7th last year. I know that no Ayo and the switch from Miller to Plummer probably has a lot to do with that, but is it possible AC did more on defense than he gets credit for?
He averages nearly a steal a game and a full 2.5 more defensive rebounds a game than Plummer. So yeah, he contributed quite a bit defensively.

I apologize if I'm asking anyone to be repetitive but we've been on vacation and work obligations have me way behind on our attention to sports of any sort. That said, what exactly happened to AC. Did this injury happen in a game or practice? Obviously he's suffering from a concussion. I've been able to find very little in the way of how this happened and when.
He said in an interview in Puerto Rico it happened in exhibition game in october, he showed the clip where he fell and hit his head on the hardwood. He said thats were it all started. Dont remember if it was first or second exhibition game.

Just feel horrible for the kid and I hope he makes it back this year.

It also really sucks as a fan to potentially miss he and Kofi together this year - I really would love to see them get a shot at a run together.

The weird part for me is that he came back after the initial injury and played a few games and then suddenly his status and health went dark for what will be almost two months.
Really not all that unusual with concussions. Symptoms can come and go. The sports world has advanced a ton with the concussion protocols but the brain is a strange thing and there is still a lot of unknown around recovery.

I didn’t take BU’s statement as one of dread. I thought it had a more “he’ll be back, we just need to make sure he’s 100%” kind of feel. Like someone else said, you never make a guarantee as a coach.

That said, I’m gonna be that guy (and I know I’m not the only one because others have said it, or hinted at it): We are absolutely better when he is not starting. At least THIS year. And, to be fair, it’s based on a small sample size in which he may or may not have been less than 100%.

Unfortunately, the longer he’s out, the more obvious it becomes that we do not “need” him. Do we want him to be healthy? Yes. Is he a valuable piece? Of course. But honestly, I’m not sure he’s even the 6th best total player on this team, let some worthy of being a starter. This isn’t even necessarily a knock on Curbelo. Rather, a testament to the rest of the team and good recruiting.

He will be a very valuable bench piece upon his healthy return, but someone would have to give me a really good point-by-point list as to why he is better than one of our starting 5 right now.

I agree. Whenever he returns, he will need to work his way back. If/when he is ready to start, it should be a decision based on how the team is playing at that time with him in the lineup and without him in the lineup.

He may not start as soon as he returns, but he will start. He is just too good to leave on the bench. His poor play following his concussion is evidence that concussions hurt play, not that he is incapable of playing at a much higher level than he showed in those few minutes.

Cupping been around forever but typical used for muscle recovery and blood flow. Similar to scraping if you've ever had or seen it being done

I agree, but, even though we are a good team without him, we are better with a "good" Curbelo. He is a difference maker when healthy and playing well, and I think the outcome of the AZ game would have been different if he were in it and playing like he did last year.

This team can grow without him, and will, but I think he is the piece that pushes us up a notch toward making a deep run in the tourney.

Had it done last summer during a deep-tissue massage. (Like, 3/4 through the massage the therapist said: "hey, would you like to try this, gratis?") All it did was to leave large red circles on my back and upper arms, which didn't fully disappear for five months (she assured me at the time they'd vanish within 72 hours.) :ROFLMAO:

I know it has been around for a couple millennia at least. Can't begin to fathom what it accomplishes that a competent, deep-tissue massage doesn't in terms of facilitating blood flow. Frankly, the place where I had the massage was simply trying to get me interested in purchasing future treatments using it.

I guess I get weirded out by all the “if this…” statements attached to Curbelo’s play. “If he plays well”, “if he’s playing at a high level”, “when he’s on”, etc…

Couldn’t we say that about anyone?

I feel like I’m just not seeing the same Curbelo you all are. This includes last year. He makes a good play now and then that makes us say “holy $h|t!”, but they are surrounded by WAY too many forced plays and “wtf?” moments for my liking.

He’s a good player, and I’d rather he was on our team than playing against him, but I’ve seen enough to realize our team success is not dependent on him being in the lineup.

And no, I think him being in the lineup against AZ is a ten point loss unless he played the best game of his life. He would have done too many “huh?” things towards the end. That’s my gut feeling, anyway.

Lol...you might want to go back to last years late run where he basically won the B1G 6th MOY award in the last 12'ish games while we ended the season on an 11-1 run.

I can't believe there's even an argument about being better with/without him.

Oh wait...it's Loyalty.....nevermind....I can believe it.

Must need your eyes checked...Top 20 in Win Shares per 40 last year. A number of the guys ahead of him are no longer in the B1G!

1st in Assist Percentage and 6th in Assists per Game in B1G coming off the bench.

5th in Defensive Rating in B1G.

Oh and just in case you forgot, he was a Freshman!

Will say this again, my concern is not Belo's turnovers but, his self-appointed role of team savior in tight games. He wanted to control the ball, make all the plays and, take all of the big shots. He can be a tremendous help but, we don't need him to be the big shot taker. I heard that the coaches have talked to him about that but, we won't know for sure that he accepts that until we see him in a few games.

I think we now have a “take the last shot savior”, but we need an enabler who can break down the defense and set up the shot taker. Ayo needed no help, he could do both. This year the roles are split and AC‘s penetration can set up our savior shooter. I think that the coaches can handle getting AC on board.

So... remove everything great about Curbelo and that's Fears? Did you mean to type "not like Curbelo at all except they play the same position?"
