Ray Woods:

-National player of the year 1917
-1st Team All American 1915, 1916. 1917
-First Team B1G 1915. 1916, 1917
-2004 named to “All Century Team”

-Jersey hung in 2008

91 years later.

Wagler: 2026 2nd team all-American.

Perspective.
Uhhhh

The Honored Jersey program was introduced in 2008. That was the earliest anybody jersey was hung. There was an initial 20 players announced, which included Ray Woods, then they added 10 more, brining up the number of jerseys rafters in that initial 2008 class to 30.

And that concludes a dumb and bad argument. Congrats to Keaton. A truly historic season by the best freshman in program history, which will rightfully be celebrated.

As someone who was present at that initial jersey raising to the rafters, which was an incredibly memorable experience for our family as my father-in-law was honored, I believe the criteria is fair, Keaton definitely deserves to be honored by raising his jersey to the rafters, and Josh has done a fabulous job of maintaining this honor as it was first intended.

So Keaton will be 34th? After Ayo, TSJ, Kofi.

Who was your father-in-law?

One thing I find crazy about Keaton is how well he compares to other Illini regardless of class. Just insane.

Comparing strictly as freshman years, would HRF, Deron, Dee & Luther, Ayo, KJ, WR, Nick, Kendall, would any of those that turned out to be legendary players, compare favorably when they were freshman? No one comes to mind, but interesting if anyone would make a case for someone else.

Nick didn't play as a freshman, Kendall/Luther came off the bench, Deron was sort of late bloomer. The closest ones would be Ayo, Will, Dee and Kofi. With Dee and Kofi being All Freshman players in the conference and Will winning 6th Man but nothing compares to Keaton's season.

Nobody played, but Wagler is the only player ESPN didnt even take the effort to get a picture of him. All other 49 have a picture of the player...Wagler, a block "I"
I've noticed that all season long. They haven't even bothered to update the pics of any new players whatsoever. Even Andrej and Big Z have pics from their previous teams.

Just pathetic.

In an alternate universe, Keaton comes back for his sophomore year and raises his own jersey to the rafters, becoming the first Illinois player to be active and raftered simultaneously.

As a bonus, he drops a triple double of 30/10/15 on Izzo's thugs that night.

One can dream....
