Welcome aboard Ayo!!

He looks fantastic in the FIGHTING ILLINI jersey. The first game next year is appointment television.

Ayo being a 1-done is the best thing that could happen to this program. BU would earn so much respect out of Chicago if that were to happen. Plus, our backcourt is loaded so we'll be good with or without him.

Nah, stick around for a second year and add Okoro and Liddell.

Congratulations Ayo, his family and the coaching staff. Thrilled to be able to look forward to watching you and this group of young men represent the university on and off the court. Work hard, have fun.

WCIA, the station of my youth. Where's Jerry Slabe to tell us all it'll be fine, just need to get the roads plowed first. Dan Roan should be here too.

You’re just a kid. It’s Paul Davis and Tom Schoendist. And Mr. Roberts with the weather. :)

I didn't watch live....so I still am not sure if this is all a ruse.. but dang I can't wait for the BU era to begin.

I feel for WF...bc we have been there many times...but it still rubs me the wrong way how they think WF is HANDS DOWN better academically when half of Illinois' UG and Grad programs are top 10 in the country and every ranking online says otherwise (must be small private school mentality).

First of all I don't feel bad for WF. Ayo is an instate kid who we offered first years ago. We built relationships with Ayo and family that date years. So WF coming in the last 6-9 months doesn't justify any tears for them.

Second, athletes typically don't care who is the #1 and #3 engineering school. The top tier athletes (Power 5 conference) are looking to get to the next level at a place that will support them with great coaching, lifestyle, facilities, academics. You can be at a highly rated university but if the academic support isn't there you may have done better at a JUCO with much better support services.

Somebody tell Shannon Ryan at the Trib that Ayo is a consensus Five-star recruit! :smash:

Ceremony was awesome. No introductory speakers, no hats, no drama. When he walked around that corner with the white polo on I had to zoom in and confirm that was the block I.:illinois: Very well done!

Welcome Ayo. So great to have you aboard. And congrats to the coaching staff. Imagine what will happen when Underwood actually starts coaching the team to victories.

Serious question here: What are Ayo's shooting stats (FG%, 3-pt%)? From the videos I've seen, his shooting form from outside doesn't look good at all. Not that I'm complaining, since he looks very quick and athletic and silky smooth. Just wondering if outside shooting is going to be a much-talked about issue with Ayo here.

Yes, it is. His scouting reports note that his jumper is the area that needs work. I'm not concerned about it; jumpers can be fixed with a competent coaching staff and a good measure of hard work.

Besides, a weird release is not prohibitive of a good FG% - my favorite example is John Shurna, even though he and Ayo obviously have a very different game.

The evaluations I've seen all say that Ayo's form is questionable, but his shooting percentages are good to very good. I would be interested in seeing some stat sheets as well.

I'm with you on this. I'd rather have a guy with elite level quickness, handles and athleticism and a shaky jumper than a good shooter with average level athleticism. We've had several of the latter in the last 10 years, and look where that's gotten us.

Add in court vision, that most important PG trait that one either has or doesn't have.

Lots of highlights of Ayo throwing outlets and pushing the break. I think he'll fit right into BU's offense. :)
