Ayo Dosunmu named Big Ten Player of the Week

Congrats Ayo! The outside world is beginning to see what Illinois fans all knew at least last year (if you say you knew before even then..kudos), that you are a special player and deserve a shot at the NBA. Keep doing you!

Where does Ayo rate as far as All-America team is concerned (assuming, of course, which I will, he continues to perform)?

Illini fans: enjoy these precious few days that remain of Ayo at Illinois.

Kofi, I think, would benefit from another year at Illinois - improved skills and then major NBA $. Sorry, not a Kofi thread. But where does Kofi fit in? Third team, honorable mention in All-America honors? Or higher? I mention this because some broadcasters have said Illinois has two All-Americans.

Garza has the preseason clout, but if the last few games are an indication of the home stretch....and Kofi double doubles out.....I have a hard time leaving him off the first team. He's second team if the vote is today I think.

Barring a total collapse, Ayo will be first team.

If Kofi keeps racking up double-doubles (and I can't see any reason for him to stop all of a sudden), I think there's a chance he could make second team. But you're probably right that he'll end up on third team or as an honorable-mention.

At this rate the all Big Ten team will be just as competitive as the All-American team. Two of the following players will not make the All-B1G first team:

- Luka Garza
- Ayo Dosunmu
- Trayce Jackson-Davis
- Trevion Williams
- Kofi Cockburn
- Marcus Carr
- Hunter Dickinson

Do you think they’ll have two centers or just 1 if it’s one it’ll obviously be luka and then Trevion would be 1st team because he’s a forward. If there is two centers I think kofi will make it ahead of Dickenson

I don't think position factors in, it's just top 5 players. At this point, for me, it's Garza, Dosunmu, Davis, Cockburn, Williams, but still subject to change over the last 4 weeks.

I would take Trice over TJD by a slight margin

Ayo and Luka have both been named once as national player of the week.

But Ayo also has 4 B10 weekly honors to Luka's 2.

If Illinois finishes way ahead of Iowa in the conference standings (and possibly wins the conference title), is there a case to be made for Ayo over Luka as B10 POY?

If the current trajectory continues, absolutely.

Very deserving...watching his growth and adaptations over three seasons has been fun and rewarding for Illini fans. And who thinks he has reached his ceiling? Sure hope he gets that lottery pick but should be a first rounder anyway.

This is interesting..and i think a fringe case could be made for ayo if he keeps up current pace. In conference play here are teh places where each is among the leaders on the conf stat site:

Garza
1 in scoring
6th in boards
5th in fg%
13th ft%
11th blocks

Thats a hell of a season in this conference. Then Ayo:

2nd in scoring
3rd in assists
21st in boards
10th in fg%
4th in ft%

I'd say it's at least a debate. But only bc garzas' ppg has come down from like the 27 or whatever it was to like 23. I think Garza will still get it, but ayo probably will get votes at current pace. If iowa slides further i think it gets close.
