Ayo Dosunmu named finalist for Bob Cousy Award

#2
Should be between Butler and Ayo. Butler has better shooting numbers and better assist numbers with less usage, as the only one of the 5 with as much usage as Ayo is Cunningham and he's probably got the worst numbers of the 5 (and by coincidence the worst team around him as well).

I'm guessing they'll give Luka NPOY, so Ayo will walk away with the Cousy. Fantastic and well-earned honor. Nothing to be sad about.

my 26 year old son was born an Illini fan and still roots. He was awarded a really sweet scholarship from OkState when he was a senior so the decision to go to Stillwater was an easy one for him . He loved it and has zero regrets. He turned that positive experience at OkState into a full ride masters degree from IllinoisState and now has a great job in Boston.

Anyway, he was on his drive home from his spring break trip to Fla in March 2017 when I texted him and informed him we poached Underwood. He was bummed . But he likes us #2 , behind his 'Pokes, and is happy we are "back". I like OkSt #2 after us , and Im hoping they can continue to get better every year. Cunningham is the real deal. If he stays in school (doubtful) , he could be the best player in the game net year.

edit: read the article in the Trib, written last Friday/Saturday by Shannon Ryan about Underwood. great story about his path to the job at UI. This is his dream job. he just loves where he is at right now. its genuine

I made the mistake of commenting on how Ayo is making a case for POTY on Facebook. Those Iowa fans are soo obsessed and LOUD about Garza. They feel he’s almost entitled to that award. (As a side note, Iowa fans are tone def blowhards. Most obnoxious in the B1G.)

I really do think Ayo has a legit case. The Cousy award would be amazing too but I think he deserves more.

“Ayo is the ONLY NCAA player over the last 11 seasons to average at least 20 points, six rebounds and five assists.”

I'm willing to consider the possibility that all the talk about Ayo and Kofi being the best tandem in college basketball hurts their respective chances at individual accolades. If we rack up a bunch more wins at the end of this season, I'm sure they'll both be okay with that tradeoff. But, as an unapologetic fan, I want to see them get some recognition for their dominant individual performances.

First team all-B1G for both, Ayo first team All-American, and Kofi second team All-American is the absolute minimum that I will find acceptable. Anything less, and I can guarantee my grandchildren will someday hear rants about how Ayo and Kofi were robbed.

Garza is going to win because it's going to end up being a lifetime achievement award. He was utterly robbed last year. Toppin was really good, but he didn't have the season Garza did. Ayo would have to completely go off the next three weeks to catch him.

Cade - no question! No player has changed the dynamics of his team more than Cunningham, and he’s a Last Five Minute Cold-Blooded Killer!

Someone needs to respond to that comment with the video of Ayo closing down games. You mean this guy?

You gotta use quotation marks my man! I was about to recommend permanent banishment for that take... 😅

Yea, I just watched the OSU vs Texas Tech and was less than impressed by Cade. He had 3 chance to close the door at the end of the game and failed.

shooting numbers look pretty similar to me

overall 49.4 to 49.3 in ayo's favor
3s 44.6 to 42.2 in butlers favor
ft 80 to 75.6 in ayos favor

It's close, but Butler's shooting better on twice as many 3pt attempts per game, so his TS% and eFG% are better than Ayo's. Butler has better steals and turnover numbers too, but Ayo get's almost twice as many boards.

Like the national player of the year, there is still work for Ayo to be done over the next few weeks.

Baylor being on pause has hurt Butler's case IMO. Nobody is even talking about him right now and that matters ...

There is still a lot of basketball to be played.

This week is a great opportunity for him to separate from the pack.

He is the most well rounded player in NCAA basketball right now. I think that should be rewarded. Have a look at the NBA draft thread I created. I spent some time looking at NBA stars’ last college season stats and posted them there. He is in very elite company with the numbers he has been posting. And that’s just offense. His defense is phenomenal too.
