Ayo Dosunmu named NCAA & B1G Player of the Week

I typically judge our basketball players based off of more than just their stats vs Iowa but to each their own I suppose...
I believe that was a response to someone saying Ayo needs to show up for every big game and not disappear for long periods of time. Looks like Deron had 4 points in a top 25 matchup...

Deron had better players who could all score. Ayo sometimes feels he needs to carry the team while Deron just made Plays on and off the ball.

So Ayo's assist totals are pretty impressive since he doesn't have the better players around him... I think someone went a little over the top with the Ayo > Deron comment but then that lead to some Ayo slander by someone else.

Not sure I agree Ayo > Deron, but not sure I disagree either. I certainly don't think it's a ridiculous position to take. If you look at Win Shares, they're pretty even.

Ayo has fewer now, but that's almost certainly going to change as Ayo plays more games and he might overtake Deron. He also has a higher WS/40 at .151 v. .133.

The main takeaway though, is Dee Brown >> Ayo/Deron. Don't think he will ever be supplanted as my favorite Illini.

I wonder how the fanbase would view this comparison if Deron Williams' NBA career was not good? I think he is held in such a high regard not only because of his play for the school but also his NBA career.

Ayo’s .238 win shares per 40 this year is pretty ridiculous

Uhhhh calm down. The case can still be made that this team has actually underperformed so far this year. Nobody says that about the 04-05 team led by Deron.
to be fair, its a team sport and you had 4 upperclassmen nba draftees in the starting lineup and then powell who got a good look in predraft workouts and summer league. And the b10 was WAY worse as 4/10 teams were not even top 100 kenpom, compared to this year where 13/14 teams are top 100 and like 11/14 are top 50

Jury is out on ayo vs deron, but he is having a special enough individual season that i dont think it's ridiculous to consider

Overall, im just glad we have a player where this discussion can be had
