Ayo Dosunmu named NCAA & B1G Player of the Week

Let us tap the brakes here. Deron was a better shooter and passer. Ayo is good bit Deron is the best PG in Illini history
Was he a better shooter? His best fg % for a full year is worse than ayos' worst FG % for a year.

HE also never shot 40% from 3 like ayo is currently doing (though he got close his soph year).......and was a sub 70% ft shooter for his career here.

An entire generation of Illinois fans likely still believes that Ayo’s good, but he’s no Dave Downey.

Okay folks...Deron and Frank were my 2 favorite Illini ever.

You are starting a college team right now....Deron, Frank, Dee, or Ayo? Who ya got? This is strictly opinion on who you'd pick, so no wrong answer!

Edit: By the way, I am taking Frankie to start my team. Watched some highlights earlier today and he was awesome.

Hard to argue with His Royal Frankness at PG. Is it just me or is Ayo more of a SG/SF anyway?

He seemed to play the point more his freshman year, if i recall correctly. But yes, he is more of a wing than a point, IMO.

Tough to compare different teams but always thought Frank Williams was amazing to watch but Nick Anderson their best player. Ayo somewhere in between, but the best on a break ever. Deron was terrific but not nearly as flashy, just steady and efficient. Curbelo will be the best pure point guard if he sticks for four years IMO. He has the flash but will also have the efficiency with more experience. Some of Dee but my comparison is Meadowlark Lemon. You young guys will have to figure that out.

I honestly think you should include Derek Harper in those names. He great on defense and offense. He moved to shooting guard when Bruce Douglas came in, that is a big reason his assist numbers aren't higher.

This young guy would typically have no idea who you're talking about except he gave me an autographed ball back when I was 8 or so while he visited our church in C-U. Very random, but now unforgettable. Heck of a name, too.

While I love #5, you must realize that Ayo has to carry us in some games. Ayo doesn't have the Sporting News Player of the year and
#4 playing along side him. Deron was not a better closer than Ayo is and I was at the Arizona game. His streak of closing shots last year
was unlike anything I've seen in my 60 years a an Illini fan. Ayo isn't quite the playmaker #5 was, however, no one in Illini history could
go to the hole like Ayo.

This would be a fun poll.

Honestly, I am 34 and my family wasn't much into sports. I didn't start watching the Illini until '99. No idea about Derek Harper. :)

Never saw Andy play but from my viepoint, Deron is the best
I doubt that many here saw him play (his time at Illinois was split on either side of the war), but he won all sorts of player of the year awards (college and national). Also made several Hall of Fames.

Illinois Basketball has a rich and storied history of success. Both the teams before and after WWII that Andy played on were fantastic. The Illini went to the Final Four with Illinois point guard Bill Erickson, whose banner is in the rafters of the Assembly Hall/State Farm Center and who was a First Team All-American in 1949, the same year that Bob Cousy from Holy Cross was Second Team...The Illini placed third, beating Oregon State after losing to Kentucky who went on to win the NC.
