Basketball Uniforms

You can have brand consistency and still have the 89 uniforms as the current set. All using the updated block I. All the same shade of orange and navy (sad that wasn'tthe case before) use the font on the baseline, and all publications.

You can do those things, sure, but that's not brand consistency.

You can't have a totally different typeface on probably the single most-viewed iteration of your team name and have brand consistency.

Maybe it's worth chucking overboard, I dunno. Maybe we use the 89 throwbacks as our standard set for 3-4 years and then once we've had our fill we go for the rebranded version with the proper font.

What I ask is not some specific design or vibe or appeal to some specific generation of fans, what I ask is thoughtfulness and intentionality. We've never quite done that in my entire life as an Illini fan.

We really need to do something to spice up that Block I or just do away with it. It looks so weak and amateur and boring. I get using a Block I for some things and I understand it's usefulness but it consistently looks drab and cartoonish on everything. It needs some major tweaking or some design alternative in its spot.

Blasphemy!

How in the world do you "spice up" a Block I that is already orange?

Edge lighting? Faux fur? Sequins?

I had a similar idea, and was my hope for the new rebrand honestly. A reference to our best look, but matching our new look and fitting our new brand. Then I saw the new brand and thought "gross". So i finally put pen to paper to execute this and to be honest. I think it looks better than i thought I would. For reference...

This is great, but what if the numbers and words were the same color? That seems to tone down the font quite a bit.

the orange should be more like a safety orange, IMO I think we are too dark of an orange

Ha, I appreciate the effort!

I'd still want to monkey with a million different aspects to it (maybe a thicker border), but you're right, just as a first impression your first one looks the best.

Im a big fan of the switched name and number color. Its how the 04-05 jerseys were, and gives enough variance that you get a nice differentiation between them.

Seeing those I also prefer the differentiation. I wonder how much that might do with that 05 team.

Not asking for a edit on the mock ups, (those look good), but the rebrand does have a secondary font we can use, so instead of the straight on Fighting (on top) Illini (below number) they could still have the arched Fighting and Illini on bottom just as the 89 unis do, but with the updated font.

I’m a fan of the new throwback but I think the new whites look pretty good, especially after seeing them in the media day videos. I was fan before but I think they’ll grow on others that weren’t too pleased.

Just saw they are selling the orange throwbacks on Gameday Spirit's website. Definitely going to order one of those, and this is coming from a guy who has quite literally never worn a basketball jersey in public ever in his life. I will have hopefully made the move to Chicago with my girlfriend by the end of the year, and if that has happened we plan on attending the game in Evanston this season. That would make for very nice attire for the occasion. :)

I want to see orange on orange, with orange numbers and orange lettering.
Make it happen, Nike.... you corrupt sob’s!

Not really orange on orange, but yellow vs. yellow in pre-season Euroleague match last week, Maccabi vs. Fenerbahce. Both premier Nike teams.
