That will change in time. Trust me on that one. I will still drink the occasional bottle of Miller Lite but find I can only have one or two when that is the only option. At that point I either stop drinking altogether or switch to some hard liquor or make a beer run! Heck, even when it comes to the so called 'domestics' about all I can stomach with any regularity is Amber Bock.

Haha I'm sure it will. But I probably can't even stomach a lot of the beers you like.

I know I mentioned Moose Drool brown ale earlier, and someone else mentioned Trout Slayer. If you are in the Champaign area, FRIAR TUCK in Savoy has both beers and they have Moose Drool in a 12 pack of 12 oz bottles. I only saw Trout Slayer in a 6 pack. Both are from Big Sky Brewery in Montana. Moose Drool is a drinkable beer for a beginning enthusiast and is very very smooth. Great aroma and color and sits well. If some of you dont know, Friar Tuck is right by the Movie Theater and Schnucks. They also have cigars to go along with your beer. You guys have to try that Moose Drool though. Its in the middle of the beer aisle on a shelf halfway down.

Here is a picture of my home - brewed Irish Red! Very delicious, still a tad bitter...but it finishes well! I figured I would update you on this beer since its been a while. I got some brown ale in the other day and will be brewing it soon!

Cheers!

That's beautiful! I'm going to be heading to Illinois here in a few days. Going for turkey and to attend the Gonzaga game. Before I go I will be hitting up my local Total Wine & More to stock up for the trip. I've gotten my brother in law hooked on drinking some of the finer craft beers. Since there is NOTHING to be found within a couple hours driving distance I always take a couple cases of beers and spirits! I've thought about doing the homebrew thing a time or two but really don't know much about it, specifically the time it takes and the cost. In fact I think my youngest daughter is much more likely to do it than I. My daughter only ever saw me drink good beer so I think my tastes have rubbed off. I think her going to college in Portland OR might have helped a bit as well ;)

Excellent! I assume it's still pretty "green", meaning it hasn't been in the bottles all that long. I find that beer will mellow from the time it's bottled to about 8 weeks out. After than, unless you have a barleywine or stout, it really shouldn't change.

Glad it turned out successfully for you. IIRC this was your first homebrewing experience. I've got some pale ale fermenting in the basement now and will be bottling in about 10 days. I hope its drinkable for the holidays.

Your ale will be better in another month. Be patient. It's worth the wait.

Yes, I drank most of the first case with friends and I am saving the next case for Christmas, it should be better then. It is still good now, but yes it is pretty "green."

Speaking of Oktoberfest...

Spaten Oktoberfest is another one I enjoy. It comes out annually at Costco, in Oct. of course, and as of last week there were still maybe 2-3 full pallets at my local Costco.

Big Sky in general is an awesome brewery. If you can get to Mizzoula, set aside a day for brewery tours.

My personal favorite is Kettle House. It looks like an old shed, and the employees could be swapped out with a head shop and no one would notice. Their beers are delicious and the atmosphere great.

I'm heading back to Chicago for Thanksgiving and plan on bringing back at least $100 worth of Two Brothers, Three Floyds, and some others.

NYC has proven quite expensive for drinking. $12 six packs are conducive to trialing a bunch of offerings.

I have found Six Point through, which makes some pretty cool beers. I have only seen tall boys in four packs from them, and love their Righteous Ale.

Three Floyd's Alpha King and Robert the Bruce are both outstanding.

I was at Friar Tuck yesterday in Savoy. They have in some new winter seasonals. I picked up a six pack of Slow Elk Oatmeal Stout from Big Sky Brewery (makes moose drool). That Slow Elk is some delicious stuff, they have it sixers and some in the Montana Mixer. Go getcha some! Very smooth and not a hint of bitterness.

Made it in to Illinois late Monday. LOTS of rain from Dallas pretty much right up to the I64. Here is the first beer from the stash I brought to share with my BIL. Getting started here before the Illinois-Richmond game. For starters we'll be having an Oskar Blues G'Knight Imperial Red Ale. Quite good! Expensive also, about $4.00 a can.

Looks delish!! Also, don't worry about how much you pay for a good quality beer because you get what you pay for. What I hate is paying 5 dollars for yeast water in a can at Wrigley Field.

Help me find some 3 Floyd's!!

I am here in Salem, small town USA, and am about halfway through my stock I brought along with me. I am hoping to find some 3 Floyd's while I am here to bring back with me to AZ. Does anyone sell 3 Floyd's in Champaign? If not is there a liquor store that would order it for me (assuming they can) if I'm willing to pay whatever it costs? There is another brewer in S Indiana who's name I cannot recall I'd like to try as well. If anyone has other suggestions of some brews available here that may not be out West I am open to suggestions. I may also be heading to Fairview Heights tomorrow night (shopping with the women, ugh!) and have heard a place called Randall's carries a nice selection. Appreciate the help in advance.

Friar Tuck in Savoy on RT 45 or Pickadilly's just to the north might have it.

Called them both and no go. Gonna stop at Friar Tucks on the way in anyway and see what strikes me. Thanks for the input.

Hate to be a downer, but it may be tough right now. I just came back to Chicago to visit for the holiday weekend and have had a hard time buying any. Seems as if 3F has been selling out a lot lately.

If you can get some, I recommend the following:
-Gumball Head
-Alpha King
-Zombie Dust (my favorite, and just recently bottled as I understand it)
-Arctic Panzer Wolf (bomber only)
-Dreadnaught
-Alpha Klaus (just released for this year, and a good beer)

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm waiting on a call from a distributor to see if he can get some for me. Not holding my breath or anything, but if he thinks he can get some I'll just forward your list and hope for the best.

Happy to help, and I hope it all works out.

I just made the haul from Chicago to NYC on Sunday with about 2 cases in the back of my car.

Very happy to be drinking the good stuff again.

Flat 12 Bierworks microbrewery opened up in downtown Indy a couple of blocks from Sun King. Both are putting out some excellent craft brews. If you're in Indy for Big Ten game, hit their tasting rooms. You will not be dissapointed.

No plans for Indy in the foreseeable future. Perhaps the next time I fly out here I'll do Indianapolis instead of St Louis so I can hit them up. Maybe they'll have some at Friar Tucks? I'll be stopping there for some stock to take back home after the game on Saturday. Who has a nice selection on tap for an early dinner after the game?

Last weekend I was over in Fairview Heights and stopped by Randall's and picked up quite a few beers I've not had before. I admit I went mostly off of the recommendations of an employee, Adam or Andy I think, and some wild guesses. Anyone had any of these?

Dells (which I've since found out is available out West only in AZ!)
Two Hearted Ale, Expedition Stout, & Double Cream Stout

Lion Stout
Recommended as very good, low cost, unknown, and from Sri Lanka of all places (British influence I'd bet)

Lindeman's Faro

Petrus Aged Pale

North Coast Old Ale

Schlenkerla Urbock

Sam Adams Infinium

Unibroue Trois Pistoles

Port Brewing Older Viscosity

Kasteel Rouge

Boulevard Smokestack Double Wide IPA

Cathedral Square Holy Moly Russian Imperial Stout

Nice selection, AZ.

Bell's Two Hearted is great. If you can ever get your hands on Hop Slam give it a try. It is a HUGE and hoppy beer, but very hard to find.
