Tried it yesterday, meh. I've yet to have any pumpkin flavored beer that I like though. Yet I love pumpkin pie! Go figure.

I've never had a fruit or vegetable flavored beer that I liked. The closest to acceptable was some hot pepper beer that I had with chili. Despite their off flavor IMO, home brewer recipes are filled with various recipes for beer with odd additives.

Throw some hops and malted barley in a pumpkin pie and see how that tastes. For me the two just don't go together.

Given that I just dissed Shock Top this will sound hypocritical, but Blue Moon has a tasty pumpkin. I never want more than 1 at a time, but it's one of the better pumpkin beers I have had.

I'm not sure why I give Blue Moon a pass even though it's Miller/Coors--maybe because it's a division of a division of Coors....but either way, no orange slices for me.

Agree...mostly. Smuttynose Pumpkin was the first flavored beer I've liked in forever (maybe because my daughter was back from college for birthday weekend). But one at a time is enough.

Hence the issue - you need a go-to beer for your next 5 bottles

Today is the 198th anniversary of the London Beer Flood

At the Meux and Company Brewery[1] on Tottenham Court Road,[1][2] a huge vat containing over 135,000 imperial gallons (610,000 L) of beer ruptured, causing other vats in the same building to succumb in a domino effect. As a result, more than 323,000 imperial gallons (1,470,000 L) of beer burst out and gushed into the streets. The wave of beer destroyed two homes and crumbled the wall of the Tavistock Arms Pub, trapping teenage employee Eleanor Cooper under the rubble.[3]

The brewery was among the poor houses and tenements of the St Giles Rookery, where whole families lived in basement rooms that quickly filled with beer. Eight people drowned in the flood or died from injuries.

After the flood, several of the residents of the city took advantage of the free beverages. People swam, bathed, and even drank the river of beer. This was highly unsanitary and resulted in the death of 23 from the H1N1 virus and B.S. disease.

After spending the summer in Oregon, my fav micro is from HUB (Hopworks Urban Brewery) in Portland. Their Organic Velvet ESB was the superb. It's described as "smoother than an infomercial host". :thumb:

It's fresh-hopped brew season! My son (UI '10, now at Northwestern for grad school) brought home a six pack of Two Brothers Heavy Handed last week. Quite nice if you are a hop fan. The highlight of the hoppy seasonal beers for us though is Bell's Hopslam.

Beer lovers, I would check out Solemn Oath Brewery in Naperville. It is a newer brewery, but up and coming. Their brewer has won many awards in the Chicago-land area and from my experience with working with him in the past, he is a hop head. he also does amazing work in the bourbon barrel age front. It has a tasting room where you can pick up growlers. I believe their goal is to be in the distribution game. They are in many local pubs now.

UFO unfiltered pumpkin is very good. Nice and spicy, with the right amount of pumpkin as well. DFH has a good as well. Those may be the only two that I like.

I haven't had one yet. Anything special or just another dark lager?

Just another dark lager, i mean...it's good, very rich. But i wouldn't go out of my way to get one. That being said, i still have 11 left and i will enjoy them.

I said a while back that I am still a fan of the old school Guiness Xtra Stout. No CO2 cartridge, too bitter for some people. First time I had one I thought it had gone bad. Later, had one at a VERY Irish bar on the South Side of Chicago...felt like I had been transported back about 30 years.

Best Guinness on tap I ever had was in Belfast. The folks I was out with said you couldn't get a decent Guinness outside of Dublin, but admitted it was better in Belfast than anywhere in England, and better in England than the US.

God, I'm thirsty :(

Cannot agree with this more.

Hopslam has been my favorite seasonal for 4 or so years now. They were putting it in mini kegs for a bit, which was amazing.

In Chicago it would last for maybe a week in the stores.

Been a great two weeks. Had my brother in laws in weekend before last and they brought 5 Three Floyds bombers and two six packs (half zombie dust, half their two hearted clone).

My father in law just landed with another nine bombers of 3F and another six pack. It's going to be a great, great week.

This bar by my house had a Three Floyds tap takeover this weekend. I'm pretty new to the midwest (after a long absence), and this was my first experience with 3F in a long time:
Dreadnaught, Robert the Bruce, Zes Zes Zes (saison), Jinx Proof Pils, Arctic Panzer Wolf IPA. Needless to say it was a fun weekend.

Just had a Red Hoptober from New Belgium brewing. Tasty. Plenty hoppy without making me want to guzzle a pint of water afterwards.

I went to one of those when I lived in Chicago and they are a blast. Do yourself a favor and try to get to Dark Lord Day some time.

Have you been to a DLD? What is the ratio of those who get in to those who actually get drawn for the 'golden ticket"? I would love to go but that is a tough time of year for me to get out there. I believe it is in April? I wish they had DLD around 4th of July or during the Holidays, I'd make it for sure. I guess I could always drop $250.00 or so on Ebay and pick up a bottle of Dark Lord brew. As much as I love beer I just couldn't convince myself to drop that kind of coin. I've got several 6 packs and bombers of FFF at my sisters house in IL awaiting my arrival in 2 weeks. Excited! :thumb:

Dark Lord is good but Bourbon County Stout is just as good IMO.

And where might I get that? I'll be downstate in a couple weeks. I'll have my Brother-in-Law check at Friar Tucks when they are at the football game this weekend.
