KBLEE thanks you for the double post ;)

as for Goose Island, 312 is an acceptable option in places that will otherwise only carry miller light or bud, but their lesser known brews are much better.

Only one question, what have you been waiting for?

Agreed. Today I went to Whole Foods and bought four six packs:

O'Fallon Pumpkin Beer
Ichabod Pumpkin Ale
Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Beer
Post Road Pumpkin Beer.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale? It's the only pumpkin beer I've had that I really enjoyed. Often times they're too sweet for me

First you have until Thanksgiving. Second the football team will give you ample reason to drink.....of course maybe we should be in a Scotch/Whiskey/Vodka thread to discuss that type of drinking.

For an average night, not for special occasions.

We may need a lot of that this football season.

I used to think Jack Daniels was so cool because of Slash.

Special beer sold only one day a year

If you want a taste of Three Floyds Brewing Co.'s finest flavor -- a thick, potent molasses-sweet stout -- your odds are never good. A bottle of Dark Lord -- a Russian-style imperial stout -- is available just once a year, on "Dark Lord Day," April 24.

You have to show up at the brewery to get it. And before you're allowed to pony up 15 bucks per 22-ounce bottle, you have to score a "Golden Ticket" online that guarantees your chance to buy it.

But you'd better get there early and be patient, says Struve. By the time the brewery doors open at 10 a.m., usually you'll find thousands of people already packing the parking lot, where they can sample craft beers from across the country while rock bands play.

"We're lucky people in Munster allow us to do it," Struve says. "You don't need a ticket to come. You can bring your own beer to trade with friends."

People come from all over the country. Some North Side bars -- including Quenchers on Fullerton -- have organized bus trips to Dark Lord Day.

I figured this thread needed a bump and this article was the impetus. Sounds like a fun event.

Super-High-Alcohol Beer Heads to the U.S.

Thanks to a war among European brewing companies, it's never been easier to catch a healthy beer buzz. Or get yourself totally sloshed. In November, BrewDog, a three-year-old Scottish microbrewery, released a new brand, dubbed Tactical Nuclear Penguin. The beer set a new record by weighing in at a scary 32% alcohol by volume (ABV), more than six times the strength of familiar domestic brands like Budweiser. As explained in a cheeky video on the company's website (warning: the clip contains simulated penguin sex), the brewery was able to attain the high alcohol content by freezing the beer at a local ice cream factory, at temperatures as low as -6°C (21°F), for 21 days. Alcohol freezes at lower temperatures than water, and removing water from the solution increased the alcohol concentration.

More jobs in state, the better.

Saw this old post, and couldn't agree more.

In Chicago there have been a number of breweries that have opened in the last few years. Half Acre, Metropolitan, and Revolution have all started making beer, and have all hired Illinois residents.

It's a great day whe you can get people drunk, and have to provide jobs to do it.

If you like those, try Avery Maharaja, Port Hop 15, Bell's Hopslam, 2 Brothers Hop Juice, Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree, and a number of other IPAs, dIPAs, and APAs.

Can you tell I'm a bit of a hop head?

Ever had the IPAs from Stone Brewery in San Diego? I like what you've listed, but Stone is a cut above in my opinion.

Great call, and Stone has increased its presence in Chicago lately.

Ruination and Arrogant Bastard are great.

Have you ever had Ska Brewing's Modus Hoperandi? It's in a can and wicked good.

Souther Tier also has some great bombers if you don't mind shelling out some cash.

I have not - I usually ignore cans. However per your recommendation, I'll do some home work (hopefully this weekend) and report back.

IO, have you ever been to Basil T's in Red Bank? Best micro ever (besides Goose Island) IMO. A must try.

I was away in Colorado for a week in July. Great time! I happened to catch the documentary "Beer Wars" while I was there (friends had Netflix). Interesting stuff.

We went to four different breweries on our trip - New Belgium and Odell's in Fort Collins and Breckenridge and Wynkoop in Denver (LoDo). All of them impressed. I think Odell was the best as far as the atmosphere and tour, and had some excellent beers, as well. I don't think there was one of theirs that I didn't like! New Belgium wins for most variety of merchandise, for sure, and were by far the biggest of the breweries we saw (aside from the Anheiser-Busch/Inbev brewery that was just outside of town off the interstate). Wynkoop had the nicest bartendress (gave us free samples - 5 of them) and I loved the monkey theme. It's very local, only distributed right now in and around Denver but they had a top-rate Black Beer (schwatzbier) and a nice smoked porter. I hope they expand their distribution range. We had some appetizer at Breckenridge and sampled quite a few of their beers, as well. They have a great location right across from Coors Field.

Anyway, it was a great trip and a nice foray into the Colorado beer culture.
