From the article ⬆️

“Nick Carparelli, the executive director of bowl season, tweeted Sunday that college football's COVID-19 protocols that were developed last year "are outdated and need to be adjusted immediately! We are causing more problems than there need to be."

I completely agree. Sad for teams that earned a spot, did everything right, and now having the opportunity taken away.

The issue here is timing. Not sure there's enough time to pull it all together if the game is Friday. If they could push the game back a couple of days, not sure why we wouldn't take a shot?

And it's already been announced that due to Covid, Bowl games can now be delayed until January 10th.........

Listen, I don’t want COVID getting anyone sick and hope that no more teams have to back out of bowl games that they earned. And I love Ohio State almost as much as all of you do, but … you know … it’s the Rose Bowl and a Big Ten team could slide right in there without missing a beat.

I think due to the situation and the potential for bowls to be rescheduled, they ought to let teams like Illinois practice if they choose so we would be ready if a bowl makes sense.
There was a very short window to address the developing situation. It may or may not have worked out, but they completely dropped the ball and now are watching the bowl season crumble at their feet.

Boise State has withdrawn from the Arizona bowl vs Central Michigan. Truthfully, this whole thing is becoming absurd.
There are 80+ teams in Bowls. Given that, the fact that only a handful of games have been effected(to date)....it's not so bad. They'll probably get 37 or 38 of the 43 games in, which again, not so bad.

It's been pretty clear for at least a couple weeks that Omicron requires a different approach. Failure to adapt to the reality on the ground is destroying this bowl season. They may get it right in time for the playoff (huge $ incentive to do so), but it's a shame they couldn't figure this out sooner.
Yea if its the NCAA who has to get it right. Probably won't happen until 2024 bowl games. Would have been to easy to say take the top 100 teams let those who don't initially make a bowl to be on standby, allow them to continue workouts up to Jan 1rst just in case. Just poor planning. BB season will be next...

NCAA needs to change it's rules to allow ALL teams to have a set number of practices after regular seasons end. The current situation where "good" teams that get a bowl bid are allowed to continue practicing, while "bad" teams can't creates an absurd case of "the rich get richer".

Gophers v WVA is a damn good game so far. Minny pulled a '85 Bears and lined up a 6'9" 370 lb OL as a RB and he took it in for their first score. then they got the 2ptc.

I still can't wrap my head around practice in December is better than playing a bowl game, with practice leading up to it. Goodness gracious, it's 9 months till the season starts. And I even more so cannot understand why players forego the bowl game "to prepare for the NFL draft." What do you think football practice leading up to a bowl game is? They'd rather do pushups with a personal trainer? That whole scenario thumbs its nose at the rest of the team. I don't want to hear anyone say it's dreadful fear of injury.

What you don’t want to hear is the reason they don’t do it…and I bet every player on that team understands and is okay with them doing it

After 3 or 4 years worth of practice, strength and conditioning and games how much more are these guys going to improve in 2 weeks of practice? There just isn't much upside at that point if they are set on going to the league.

Imagine playing football for 12 years without getting too physically hurt that you are on the cusp of life changing money. You are a guaranteed first round pick set to make millions. You come from absolutely nothing, living in the projects, or trailers, or the streets. Why would you ever, EVER, risk that for a glorified exhibition game that pays your nothing to be there? You are one knee being rolled up on or chop block or blind side from being a millionaire to rehabbing as a rookie as a fifth round pick hoping to stick on.

These kids have done their time and their universities have made their money off them. Then they go pro and guess what? Hey, can you help bail out our bad coaching hire? Hey, we need a new performance center, can you donate? Hey, remember when you helped make us millions while we paid you nothing, yet here we are asking for a donation to better our sports programs?

These kids have seen the fourth wall and realize they have power now. I'm so happy for them.
