Minnesota 5 wins makes bowl appearance....Huh??
Technically not fair because we beat them this year and they lost 4 straight games down the stretch but they had a higher APR. We had our chance and blew it. Oh well, that’s life. Time to move on and concentrate on next year.

As a fan of the sport, I'm bummed this year is still a 4 team format. Seems like there are more than 4 deserving teams, at least at this point, that could make a run.
Let's see how this ages. While this year, to this point, certainly has a lot more teams that seem to be in the mix, vs. years before, I think when all is said and done we're looking at two teams who stands head and shoulders above all others (Georgia, and Michigan).

Is there a systematic reason our APR is so low? Every year this is a question, I expect us to be in the mix for a 5-win bowl bid and then I see we aren’t even close. Is the program just full of guys who “aren’t here to play school?”
Thought the same thing.....I always thought Illinois was high scholastic school?

so basically, due to players entering the transfer portal and the NFL draft , other than the games for the championship, all bowl games have gone from being the final game of the existing season to being 10 practices and a practice game for the next years team .

thats my take on all this early transfer portal stuff. players dont want to risk any injury

I mean, honestly, if our best players every year don’t care enough to play in the bowl game, why should I care enough to watch the bowl game? Once we lose that second game of the year and our playoff chances are essentially void, why should I care about the remaining games?

I get where you are coming from, but this is more of an issue of too many bowl games and results not really mattering. Why should the best players take a risk and get injured ruining draft stock or NIL possibilities elsewhere for a game featuring two 6-6 teams? This was debated ad nauseum in the lead up to the Illini bowl game last season. Our best sat out the bowl game, but I still watched (and I am sure you did too). I still enjoyed the game and getting to watch my school play football in January. Unless you are in the CFP or a Rose Bowl tier game, the results of the bowl games do not really mean that much, and they have not for a long time. To me a bowl game is more practice for the next season and getting to celebrate the season somewhere warm (unless you get stuck in the Motor City Plumbers 911 Bowl).

I dont and wont blame the good players. They are simply protecting their health from an injury in a meaningless game at that point. 'Spoon deserved a chance to get selected in the early slots and he is likely set up for life, after working his tail off for many years in sports at the prep and college levels.
same for Newton.

the money is too big to ignore . itws wjust strange how this has changed in the last 5-10 years. Nick Bosa skipped his entire Sr year and is now the highest paid defensive player in the game, One day maybe he gifts millions back to OSU. Who knows.

the college game is big business to the schools, the coaches and the players. Its not 1998 or 2008 anymore
