I finally got around to watching Don't Look Up and decided to see if my reaction was the same as others. This one sums it up better than I could:

...the film’s biggest flaw is that it is a preachy, shouty, hypocritical, overlong mess. Leonardo DiCaprio often manages to find a way to shout in movies. Usually, he is shouting at another character. This time, he shouts directly at us. He screams at us. He is screaming about the comet, but you can substitute it for climate change, and the effect of the message is the same. We must get our heads out of the sand and take the issue seriously. I agree. I just resent being lectured to by a man who lives in a mansion, flies around the world, and has a greater carbon footprint than the average person.

Would be curious as to how Ian (or any other movie watchers on here) would rank the Coen brothers movies they have seen:

1.) Big Lebowski
2.) True Grit
3.) Raising Arizona
4.) Miller’s Crossing
5.) No Country For Old Men
6.) Fargo (the tv series is amazing too.)
7.) Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?
8.) The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs
9.) The Hudsucker Proxy
10.) Inside Llewelyn Davis

Honestly I could of made this list 5 different
ways…these guys are maestros. A lot of really good ones. Their movies age so well too…unlike so many other directors oeuvres that just don’t hold up over time and often end up feeling really dated.

William Hurt has passed away at age 71. Had a long career as an actor. Most of us of a certain age will know him as Thaddeus Ross in the MCU (will be interested to see who they get to play him going forward). I also recall seeing him in the Too Big to Fail movie about the 08 financial crisis that was released on HBO a little over a decade ago.

1) Fargo
2) Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
3) True Grit
4) The Big Lebowski
5) Miller's Crossing
6) No Country For Old Men
7) The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
8) Raising Arizona
I hadn't even realized these were all Coen brothers movies, which tells you how close I'm paying attention. But I've seen all those except Buster Scruggs, and love most of them. Tough ask, but mine is probably:
1. Fargo
2. No Country for Old Men
3. Raising Arizona (the best role Nicholas Cage ever played)
4. The Big Lebowski
5. True Grit
6. Oh Brother Where Art Thou? (This should probably be higher, but I've thought the same about 4, 5 and 6)
7. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - haven't seen, but I did not like...
>8. I haven't seen the Hudsucker Proxy or Inside Llewelyn Davis, but I'm ready to rank them higher than Miller's Crossing sight unseen.

Can't deny this claim, though he gave a good run for his money in Pig this past year. Based on the title and brief description, I thought it was going to be a ridiculous Nic Cage version of Taken, but it was a fantastic little film.

Nic Cage is…you know Nic Cage. So I didn’t know…but at the same time it does looks like an interesting storyline. Alright, you’ve convinced me. Good sell

Caught Licorice Pizza last night and as an admirer of Paul Thomas Anderson's filmography, this is at the bottom of the list for me. It felt disjointed, uncomfortable, and ambiguous at best.

Finishing out my 2021 Best Picture nominations this week. Last night was King Richard. Something about Will Smith in a drama just works for me.

#192
Tonight viewing was "Drive My Car." Heavily driven by dialogue and exceptional character development, its cinematography was equally beautiful. My #2 favorite of the Best Picture nominees for the year.

#193
Rounded out the Best Picture nominations with "West Side Story," which was everything you'd expect from Spielberg's remake.

My personal top 10 going into Sunday:
10) Don't Look Up
9) Licorice Pizza
8) Nightmare Alley
7) The Power of the Dog
6) West Side Story
5) King Richard
4) Dune
3) Belfast
2) Drive My Car
1) CODA

I just watched Nightmare Alley and really liked the grittiness of the movie ..............Dark , foreboding characters with a flair for the provocative side of human nature...........Cooper , Defoe and Blanchett were great in their portrayal of their character's quirky demeanor........

I give it an 8.5 and the ending was classic........................."" What I was born for ""...............classic......................
