You've got a few right already! I went to see the live action shorts yesterday and was really impressed with An Irish Goodbye. It literally could have been stretched to a feature but played so well as a short.

And is it just me, but was introducing a commercial for a Disney movie from the Oscar's stage kind of crass?
I felt that too. Then remembered Disney owns ABC. Part of the game I guess...

Saw Oppenheimer last weekend and really enjoyed it. Cillian Murphy is getting a lot of Oscar buzz and is definitely worthy of it with his performance in this film. Robert Downey Jr., who really only appeared briefly in the trailers, is really good in his role and I think should get some best supporting actor consideration as well. I think that Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer's wife, could even get an Oscar nomination as well.

I caught it last Sunday. The third act was by far the most captivating to me, in what was probably my third favorite Nolan film (behind Memento & The Dark Knight)

That said, I felt there was a missed opportunity in the script with Florence Pugh's character as it related to Oppenheimer's moral arc and worldview. She was foundational to him in many ways, and the script reduced this real life psychiatrist to someone with an aversion to clothes and suffered from depression.

Nolan kind of thought so too.

Yeah I can totally see that argument but there was a lot of different threads that Nolan had to juggle with the film.

For those looking for something to do this weekend, Sunday is National Cinema Day with many theaters around the country offering $4 tickets for showings. Some of the theater chains are also doing other specials in addition to the ticket prices. AMC Theaters are offering a small popcorn and a small drink for $5.00 plus tax.

While I'm sure not everyone on here is a wrestling fan, this movie looks really interesting, especially if you know any of the history of the Von Erichs in Texas, and is one I'll definitely be checking out when it is released:

Burt Young, best known as Paulie in the Rocky films, has passed away at the age of 83:

I didn't know until I was reading some articles about him that he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in the first Rocky movie.

Uhhhhh no. There is only ONE Ghostbusters film. Every attempt since, has been a failure, just as this one will be....

As an aside, I saw 5 Nights at Freddies today, fun film! I couldn't help but think how similar it was to Nic Cage's film Willy's Wonderland.... near identical except Freddies was more PG13 whereas Willy's was definitely an R film with the blood/gore/violence.....

Tomorrow, I'm gonna go see The Marvels. I have zero hope for this film, but as a die-hard sci-fi/Marvel fan, I have to watch it.... I fully expect it to be one of the lowest grossing Marvel movies as it relates to production costs......

Ghostbusters 2, sure I'll give you that that one wasn't great. I never saw the all-female version of Ghostbusters. I strongly disagree with your take on Ghostbusters Afterlife. There were some issues with it but mostly it was issues with the screenplay.

Took in two recent Netflix releases last night.

First was Mike Birbiglia's "The Old Man & The Pool" which was an absolute delight. It was a reminder to why he's my favorite comic, and felt reminiscent to his previous special (and my personal favorite) "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend."

Second was David Fincher's "The Killer." Michael Fassbender captured the screen and I loved the chapter format of the film. It had a predictable unpredictability to the story that was alluring.

He’s dang good in the Sopranos too as Bobby Bacalieri Sr. too.

Went to see The Holdovers last night. Paul Giamatti plays a curmudgeonly ancient history teacher at a New England boarding school in 1970 who has to watch over a group of students stuck at the school during Christmas break. Alexander Payne, who worked with Giamatti on Sideways, directs this and the movie is really well done. The film was shot as if it was made back in the early 1970s which I think adds to how good this film is. The film does have a bit of social commentary but it is more pointed than heavy-handed.

Seems to be a thing nowadays to bring back older movies on the Big Screen. I like it! This past year I've seen 2001: A Space Oddity and Blade Runner.

Most recent movies I've seen are Marvels , meh, Dream Scenario, pretty good, and G Minus One which I thought was fantastic! On the near horizon for me to watch are The Shift, Poor Things, Wonka, Rebel Moon, Aquaman, and The Iron Claw....

I love going to movies! If you have the ability to attend weekday matinees I'd strongly recommend signing up for Movie Pass where I'm getting to watch 2-3 movies per month for my $10/month fee.
