This St. Louis sports talk reminded me of how unique Illini fandom is that we have very large chunk of our fans in both the Chicago and St. Louis metro areas and an even larger chunk who cheers for one of those metro's sports teams. It's especially interesting with baseball, given the rivalry ... I always find it kind of funny/interesting/cool actually that there is an "Illini Night" at a Cubs, Cardinals and White Sox game each year.

Is there a comparable NCAA fan base that would have such diametrically split baseball allegiances?? Only one that really comes close, IMO, is this first one:

UConn: Yankees/Red Sox ... actually very comparable to Illinois' split.

Mizzou: Cardinals/Royals ... would probably skew heavily toward the Cardinals, and that rivalry does not compare with Cubs/Cards.

USC: Dodgers/Angels ... I assume most UCLA fans are solidly on the Dodgers side of this line.

Ohio State: Indians/Reds ... I guess this is one.

Penn State: Pirates/Phillies ... Pitt fandom in the Pittsburgh MSA kind of throws this off.

Probably a decent split among UT and A&M fans in Texas. Not even touching the fan base mess that is Florida baseball. Of course, you have many fan bases like Iowa or Indiana whose allegiances would be all over the place because their states don't have MLB teams.
