South Carolina is at best the Minnesota of the SEC. We had a chance to play the Michigan/OhioState of that league

I'd be PISSED if I was Indiana with 1 loss and falling to the 10 spot.
I would be ecstatic just being in the playoff if I were IU. They weren't getting a home game anyway, so I actually think this matchup is better for them. ND is not any world beater at this point.

Guessing Bama said no. They are the grand prize for any bowl committee. They brings ratings. Bama versus us would have brought double the ratings(if not more) than us versus SC.

They'll find a game versus a bigger name that, like them, didn't have a great year.
May be right but no one on Bama cares and everyone will sit. May not even travel up to bama standards for this one. Everyone loves bama was left out

Is this official yet? Very strange to see a higher ranked SEC team selected over, though South Carolina likely has more motivation than Bama at this point.

Can't think this would have been the choice of Citrus Bowl committee. If so, it is a stupid choice.
Not so sure about that. Who will travel better?

Not really. Citrus probably didn't want Bama because they didn't want to be there and will have tons of opt outs. If we know that, they know that.

I never said I think either team should sit out. Was just raising the question of whether Bama will be petty enough to do that.
Sorry no I meant players sitting out. No worries.

How does the revenue arrangement work for these quarterfinal games?

A team like Penn State would look to be in higher revenue position playing home game (and if winning making bowl game), than winning conference and getting bye.

Something I thought about is the 1st round losers of the playoff won’t end up going to a bowl game.

Indiana will have had a great season to simply lose at Notre Dame and their season end

So the citrus bowl's twitter post about the game was deleted?

Are you kidding? This is an insane take. This first round game is their bowl game.

They are playing game 1 of a playoff with a chance to win a national championship.

Bowl games outside of these playoffs are absolutely meaningless. They are really nice rewards for good seasons.

You don't think that we'd rather be in their spot versus being in a the Cheese - It Citrus Bowl....a game where the best players will skip and a team like Alabama doesn't even want to play in?

This is like asking someone if they'd rather lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament or win three games in the NIT.

Can someone explain why we are not in the playoffs? Why is SMU ahead of us? College football is corrupt and everyone should go to jail!

Michigan is going to the Reliaquest Bowl. If Bama is offered, though it's the lower tiered bowl, they'll take it. It's ALL about the name of the jersey. Michigan has a name that Bama would feel is "worthy" of playing them.

Taking off the O & B goggles, what game would you rather watch:

Illinois vs Alabama
Michigan vs Alabama

It's pretty obvious.

Love that we have people so concerned about Alabama. We have come a long way to the best bowl since 2007 and a 9-3 season and everyone’s so concerned about a premier SEC program. Let’s all get focused on how good South Carolina is and figure out a way to win.
You're absolutely right. It's also why a 3 loss Alabama team is stunned that they didn't make the playoffs and why there's an uproar. Their brand is worth a TON to the folks at ESPN, CBS, ABC, etc.

They are the talk of the college football world right now. Not going to see much discussion about Penn State vs SMU.

It's all perception and money associated with it.

Bowl games and the lead up activities in bowl week are for the fans. You can’t compare a bowl game to SMU playing at Penn State. It’s two different things.

And the Citrus Bowl, where two top 20 teams are matching up, is far more prestigious than the NIT.

A bowl game is a reward for a good season. The first round losers aren’t getting any reward.

Love that they were left out going to play a mediocre Michigan team. I’m sure espn is furious - even funnier that McMurphy leaked it before their stupid show
