Yeah, I was told that it was a done deal on Sunday afternoon. Same person told me that he is trying to bring Will Muschamp from Auburn as DC.

If Muschamp could just get an OC hire right he'd be a nice fit at South Carolina...but whether he can or not remains to be seen.

The feared free-for-all of coaches has basically completely fizzled.

All of our coaches we were SO TERRIFIED that we wouldn't be able to get are sitting RIGHT THERE.

I'm so sad :tsk:

Not Fuente, and it isn't over yet.

Sure, not over yet, but this means we'd have had plenty of time to be in the ear of our top, realistic candidates, who are all still there. By no means a guarantee we land any of them, but the fact they aren't already taken (besides Campbell) means they didn't have a job they wanted as soon as the contract was there.

That's the rumor. Him and Muschamp would have a nasty defense in Athens. They would just need a decent OC to be scary good.

You and I discussed this awhile back - how penciling in coaches with jobs is an extremely inexact science and further shows there's a disconnect between who schools and ADs want and what popular opinion thinks. Who would have thought USC would simply stick with Helton rather than go after a big name? The thing is, ADs are paid to make these decisions and should be doing their homework such that Helton may be the next Pete Carroll. Thus the importance of an experienced and well connected AD.

Mizzou interviewing Marc Trestman actually makes me feel a lot better. Thank you, Mizzou.

Thought that was proven to be fake. Would be great if true. Let mizzou join us in football purgatory!

Yeah just proven to be a troll. Nonetheless, that image was awesome

Puzzled by South Carolina's interest in Muschamp - if you can't win at Florida how do you win at SC? His defense at Auburn this year was not good and the defense at Florida didn't depend on him (DJ Durkin last year and excellent this year without him.)

I like the DJ Durkin hire at Maryland.

I also predict that UGA will be disappointed in Kirby Smart. Sure his defenses at Alabama were really good, but they should be. They've got Nick Saban and the best players in the country.

Smart recruits a lot of those kids on that d in Alabama . He's a god down there. Trust me he will get good recruits.

I know - I guess I'm more surprised at how quick that was. I could've easily seen Richt sitting out a year or maybe more.

From some of his earlier comments, it sounds like the job at his alma mater was one that really appealed to him.

It's kinda interesting for Miami. He is an alum, from Boca Raton, played for Howard Schnellenberger, etc. But at the same time you'd be hard pressed to find a coach more opposite of the image of "The U" than a humble, softspoken Christian gentleman like Mark Richt. Jimmy Johnson he ain't.

Still, he's twice the coach Al Golden is. They will have success there.

I mentioned a million times in this thread I thought the only way they get an attractive candidate is if they hire within their grand alumni network. I think this and their candidate list sort of confirms that. Still, it works out for them as I think it's a good hire.
