How in the world is that not targeting? They might as well take it out of the game. It was targeting. If that had been Scott for Illini it would have been targeting.

if that wasn’t targeting, then what is? Targeting is not consistently called even with review.

I speculate the thought process is “we don’t want the outcome of the game to turn on a penalty so we’ll err on the side of not calling it.” But that decision not to call it also probably determines the outcome of the game.

Agreed that it wasn’t targeting. He was squared up on the receiver and even tried to put his head up. He didn’t go for his head or launch with an helmet lead. Unfortunately, it’s a very subjective rule and interpretation, and that’s the problem with it despite the intention of protecting players.
