Ironically it's exactly how they started the season, and ended the season. Perfect bookends.

In retrospect, they had it all together way back on 9/27, when they beat Georgia. That was it. Their October "gauntlet" run of Georgia, Vandy, Missouri and Tennessee was actually otherwise unremarkable.

i’m seeing a lot of hate for IU/preference for Oregon. is that just residual hate from IU men’s BB? personally love seeing a historically doormat program competing for the title

The problem was it took the crew 2 minutes to realize there was, indeed, one second left on the clock. Thus, the clownshow ending.

Miami just motivated by Michael Irvin doing his best sideline imitation of Gary Busey. We just need someone like Simeon Rice to come back and show that kind of enthusiasm on the sideline (or bat sh..crazy) for the Illini.

They were the reason we got instant replay in college football (2002 OSU game-Walter Young still caught that OT TD pass in the end zone), and nothing has changed. I don’t see how last night will change anything.

Well they had to check the replay to know for sure. They said right away there might be time left. I don’t normally defend refs but the problem was the people setting up the stage before the refs said the game was over. Twice.

Just depends on how you look at it.

1. Did you prefer the years that the 4 team playoff was some combination of Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio St? That wasn’t very fun.

2. How many other schools are looking at Indiana and saying “if they can do it, so can we”? Which will create an additional layer of parody and in my opinion, improve the sport.

3. It shows what you can do with the right coach and right financial resources. We seem to now have both. So to me, it’s a good omen for the future of our own program.

4. If I was a Michigan fan, I’d like it a whole lot less. And I’m not going to agree with Michigan fans on anything.

Bret and Cignetti have similar philosophies tbh. Indiana is an old team by CFB standards and Bret similarly values experience.

Cignetti's talent evaluation is just on another level right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the non-AQ schools basically become a dev league for the P4.

If the CFP has done anything well, it's enabling all major conference programs to recruit with the chance of making it, instead of how it was before when 5 programs took all the recruits and nobody else stood a chance.

Granted, some major programs have still dropped the ball, and mid majors are further behind than ever (basically instead of 5 tier 1 teams and a bunch of tier 2 teams that were beatable by mid majors, now it's effectively 3 tiers of teams, major contenders, major non-contenders, and mid majors).

That's not the mid-majors fault, though, so the media should get over trying to blame them for the problems with the CFP. JMU and Tulane weren't top 15 teams, but neither was Duke, and there's at least a chance some mid major sneaks up on a big boy in the future with the current format.

I do expect the playoff to expand to 16 as soon as next year, though, along with a guarantee that each P4 conference champ gets a bid (and maybe the ACC will fix their tiebreakers to better handle the extremely unbalanced schedules that are not going away).
