Really good coaching by both sidelines during/after the fake punt.

Lanning has a great feel for the game. He seems to know how and when to pull a trick play like that. Maguire’s timeout was a basketball-style timeout to stop some of the momentum and let the defense rest a little more.

I don't understand why Oregon wouldn't just wear the limest green helmets every time. Help your QB see his guys instead of almost matching TT.
Oregon has a fantastic color scheme with their green and yellow. I love it.

Every time they don’t utilize those colors, I scratch my head.

Rare game management mistake by Dan Lanning. IMO, he should have called a timeout on 2nd down. About 20 seconds came off the clock between 2nd and 3rd down.

I might be in the minority but I would like to see the playoff taken out of the neutral site bowls and do it like the pros with the higher seed playing at home.
too much money to the schools and not the NCAA/sponsors. won’t happen

Agree with you both, but I’d love to see that happen.

And with bowl prestige waning of late, I think the best way to save the bowl structure (and I’m not saying I want to) is to return the Rose, Orange, Fiesta etc to the non-playoff games. Currently, if you don’t make the playoffs, the best you can hope for is the Citrus or Reliaquest Bowls. Fine bowls… but in the past they’ve been reserved for also rans.

If the playoff were at home venues, Indiana and Alabama would still be playing a huge game while Michigan and Texas would’ve played in the Rose Bowl, a very nice consolation prize. As of now, the six prestigious bowls are occupied by eight teams, four of which get to play in two of them.

imo, works really only for first round games two weeks ago . and I can see that being eliminated entirely as well for various reasons

Why do you say that? Honestly wondering.
campuses closed - students and many employees
weather
seems to work okay is - Im just not in favor of 12 teams with a bye round for 4 of them
and see hoops tourney - neutral sites seem to work pretty well

The size and athletic ability of some of these guys is staggering.

Oregon’s DL Amari Washington is 330 pounds. Jesse Palmer said he squats 775, has a 36 inch vertical, and has a top speed of 21 MPH.

I’m cannot wrap my head around that combination of size and explosiveness.

see Fridge Perry from 1985 doing multiple standing table top jumps in a row as a 350 pounder

If teams could play at home in the CFP today I can’t imagine the school's winter break wouldn’t be an issue. Heaven and earth would be moved for that.

But I think it is the way it is because of the old bowl deals and ties. Maybe those will weaken enough that doesn’t matter at some point. No idea.

Texas Tech's offense has been Brian Ferentz level booty cheeks but there are only down 13!

I’ll never understand these coaches that go
For every 4th down seemingly with no regard for time and score. Oregon has left at least 6 points on the table and now turned over on downs around midfield with a 2 score lead working a shutout late in the 3rd.

I understand the analytics but it seems the analytics has overrun football common sense. You’re shutting them out. Don’t give them a short field. Make em drive 90 yards.

Particularly when Lanning admitted at the half he should have taken the points at least once more in the first half.

On one hand, you can say Lanning trusts his defense so they can afford to go for it. But in a game like this, I’d agree. Make Tech try to go 85-95 yards.
