He was quite a bit worse last year, probably due to injury. We probably didn't notice it as much since the Bears were so out of so many games, his misses weren't as significant. This year, he actually leads the NFL in made field goals and is making them at a rate just a tick below his career average. The weird thing has been that he's missing them in clumps. Three in a row in the Vikings and the Chargers games, and then the two yesterday. Those are the only misses this year. The Vikings miss was a 50+ try in the 3rd quarter that I think most of us thought the Bears should have gone for it on fourth down in that situation. Langford dropping a third down pass that would have allowed the Bears to ice the clock was the more proximate cause of that loss. Then the two misses in San Diego that made that a much closer game that it should have been. If there was any concern over those misses, Gould then made a whole bunch in a row until yesterday's disaster. I don't believe he's ever missed one from that short with the game on the line. That's been automatic his entire career. I'm anxious to see how he does the remainder of the season. I really hope it's a fluke and we don't have to go looking for another kicker. Having a guy that you know is going to make every kick is such a great luxury. I do wonder about the long snapper shuffle, and whether the one guy got released because his rhythm was off, or maybe that they were having trouble adjusting to the new guy.
