Agreed. Santos does not have as strong a leg as many kickers in the league. I was immediately worried that the kick would be lower. It doesn't help that 3 Packers pushed through the line on the kick.

The other thing I hated was running the clock to 3 seconds. Should have left a couple seconds more in case of bad snap. With all the time wasted, they should have run the ball at least one more time.

Is there anyone in America who DIDN’T see the end of that game coming?

Poised Packers go down the field near the end of the game and get the score they needed to win.

Bears... do Bears Things and find another way to let yet another Packers game slip away.

At least there were signs of improvement overall from the Bears QB.

And this Bears game gave us something to do while waiting for the start of the Grey Cup Championship in the lands North of Green Bay.

At this point there are two important things for the Bears

1. Caleb showing progress
2. Flus getting fired

Big success today on both counts

That’s exactly how I feel. Unfortunately, not really concerned with wins and losses because unlikely to make playoffs and even more unlikely to do anything if they did. As long as Caleb is making progress, I’ll take Eberflus’s exit and a better draft pick.

It was a 46 yard field goal. That's a layup at the pro level.

It was on the left hash where he wanted it.

The snap was good, the hold was good and
he struck it well.

However, whether it's a 30 yard FG or a 56 yard FG.....your right guard can't get blown by to that extent.

For all of his troubles, Caleb Williams is averaging just over 200 passing yards a game. If he continues that over the next 7 games, he’ll finish the season with about 3400 passing yards, which would be good for 5th all time in Bears history, with only Jay Cutler (3x) and Eric Kramer (1x) having more in a season.

Those season records are a pet peeve of mine. When I was a kid they had just started playing 14 games, up from 12. Career records are the same.

Actually average yards per game doesn't mean much. In the olden days defenders could beat the crap out of receivers until the ball was in the air. I remember a close game where the Bears were on defense late in the game. The opposing QB threw a pass to an open receiver in the middle of the field, but he collapsed before the ball got to him. Everyone was confused until they showed the replay. Butkus has clotheslined him as he ran by. Announcer said something like, "That was perfectly legal, the ball was still in the quarterback's hand. That's one of the many reasons that you don't just run across the middle of the field."

It was illegal to hold onto a defender's jersey regardless of where your hands were. Inside the shoulder pads was still holding, and the penalty was 15 yards. OTOH defensive linemen were more run stoppers instead of pass rushers because it was 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Yeah, I said dust. There was dust unless it rained, then it was mud.

Penalty on kickoff, block in the back, holding, clipping, was 15 yards. Backed you up 15 yards and the offense started with first and 25. Same on a punt, penalty during the return was going to mean first and 25.

Fun fact about Erik Kramer's 3838 yards in 1995, the Bears all time single season record:

It was only 7th most in the NFL THAT SEASON

There have been over 250 seasons of 3900 passing yards in NFL history and the Bears have none of them. Derek Carr has six of them, Jameis Winston has three, Ryan Tannehill has three, Andy Dalton has two, this is not a high bar!

I thought maybe the Bears would address the problem on the right side of the line on their field goal unit. The problem the packers publicly stated they had seen in their scouting. Silly me.

Bears dominating time of possession again with over 21 minutes in the first half. The problem is it doesn’t translate into points, and the Bears defense gives up bad average yards per play to opposing offenses. I think packers had something around 8.5 last week.

Bears just inventing new ways to screw up. Wow.

If you squint you can see a good football team but they just can’t get out of their own way.
