In the pantheon of mostly bad to awful Bears QB's, I'd say Caleb shows at least some promise that he may at least end up more in the decent to good QB range. Which for the Bears is like saying he is a hall of famer. As others have said the ball does need to come out sooner & accuracy needs to improve. I suspect he is at times waiting for the "perfect" throw instead of just ripping one in there when the guy is slightly open. He still has to learn that in the NFL slightly open is like being wide open at a college or high school level.

Peyton Manning quote about talking to his Dad after a few games.
I said, "Nobody's open".
He replied, "Yes they are, welcome to the NFL.

There were at least 4 instances off the top of my head where he should have or did the same things last year. FG drive @ GB (kick blocked), TD drive against WAS (undone by Hail Mary), 10 points in less than a minute to force over-time against MIN, GW FG drive vs. GB.

People have terrible memories whenever he plays well. They just focus on nit-picking.
You know the haters were scrambling around chomping at the bit trying to find a way to pin 100% of the blame on Caleb if the Bears had lost 42-41.

I've also heard it said that in college you can see the guy open & then make the throw. In the NFL the great ones can throw the guy open. He's not open when the ball is released but the timing & trust is there that they are breaking open right as the ball is cut loose.

Peyton certainly developed that skill.

I can't speak for other "haters" but I don't think anyone (or many) deny that Caleb is a good player, and that he makes a lot of good plays. The issue is that there are some glaring issues and problems with his game that prevent him, at least at this point, from being a legitimate franchise QB. While he makes a lot of great plays, he also makes a lot of bad to subpar plays that someone like him should not make.

One simple example: in the play that got Kmet hurt, on what should've been very simple and easy play (not much pressure on Caleb, Kmet pretty open), he threw the ball too high and behind, making Kmet stretch for it exposing himself, and ultimately getting injured.

He dances too much in the pocket, fails to go through his progressions (at least not fast enough), keeps looking for the home run play on every down and forging easy checkdown options, a couple of times he was running he went down short of the first down marker for no reason (defenders still 3-4 yds away), etc.

Basically, as stated before, he is not very accurate and his decision making is lacking. But he is so talented, athletic, and has such strong arm (specially on the run) that he makes plays to make up for some of his deficiencies. But those deficiencies are significant.

Tues trade deadline: Bears get Edge Rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka from Cleveland plus a 7th round pick for a 6th round pick.
Former 1st round pick, anybody know more?

Being in Ohio, I usually watch parts of at least half Browns games. Haven’t watched as much as past years, but I’ve never heard of him. Think he was a bit buried on depth chart. Looking at stats, he had 4 or 5 sacks each of his first 3 years and then 2 last year (all with TB). Wouldn’t expect anything big from him, but another piece to rotate in. Maybe he surprises us.

Was a back-end of the first round pick in 2021 NFL Draft. Didn't live up to the hype with the Bucs so he signed a one-year deal with the Browns earlier this year. Browns haven't used him much thus far this season.

Move is just a depth move with Dayo Odeyingbo done for the year with an Achilles injury.

Sometimes "third time is a charm", right?!
Let's hope that's the case here.

The rush on third and long and then going for it on fourth down strategy for the Bears today isn’t working. I wonder how short a field goal attempt has to be today.

Meh, NY's receivers are catching perfectly thrown balls. The Bears receivers aren't. Williams couldn't have handed Zaccheaus the ball any better than that throw to the end zone on the run. Should have been 6.
