Davidson said in the post season press conference that this type of result is no longer acceptable. There’s no way they expected to still be this bad at this point. If the results don’t improve significantly Richardson won’t be back next season, his contract will be up anyway. If it keeps going like this he might even be canned during the season.

last season's squad was middling AHL level and the results reflected that. the Hawks are much, much better this season. practically every game has been close. we weren't gonna make the playoffs this season. FWLIW, it's been a near perfect season in the context of the rebuild.

Richardson is a caretaker, at best

I could see them canning Robinson and picking up the guy that Boston just fired, Jim Montgomery. Maybe not until the new year, but if things continue this way, I could see it happening.

They are in every game. The D is much better as is the goaltending. The offense is, well, offensive.

My only problem with this season is the Hawks are super boring to watch. They are playing low-event hockey with very solid goaltending. Losing every game 2-1 or 3-2 is less fun than losing 5-4. I do expect they will move on from Richardson at the end of the year.

On the bright side, when my antenna does work the broadcast with Rick Ball is infinitely better than it was with Chris Vosters.

Being "much, much better" doesn't mean much if it doesn't translate into points.

so what? we don't want it to. the path to elite talent is to by finishing near the bottom
The day you won the Bedard lottery the rebuild objective transitioned from draft capital maximization to prospect development.

Neither of those things is "winning", but the latter is much more concerned with keeping the vibes good on the ice and in the locker room, especially as it pertains to Bedard himself.

It's not time to panic or anything, but there's reason for worry. I don't see a lot of tails wagging out there. Hopefully it's going better in Rockford which is equally as important.

Yeah, who cares about winning? Let's just move the bar back and tank every year. They already tanked the past two years. This is so silly. All I'm asking for is incremental improvement. And I quoted Davidson's own words that this is not acceptable anymore. This team is not "much better" than last year.

The Bears pulled the trigger on Eberflus. We have to getting close to seeing the same with the Hawks and Richardson, right??

I don't think so. The Bears expected to be playoff contenders this season. The Hawks expected to be improved but still not legit playoff contenders.

Yes, the Hawks are in last place overall, but they aren't getting their doors blown off. They have the same goal differential as the Blues. I don't think Luke will be the coach next year, but I'm not sure what's to be gained by axing him midseason.

I wouldn't be surprised. They are "better" this year in that they haven't been getting their brains beaten in night after night, but with all the veterans they brought in this year, they're still last in the league in points. Pretty sure that's not what Davidson was expecting.

More scoring perhaps? Not sure if their lack of scoring is due to the system Richardson runs or if the players are just bad, but this year's team should be scoring more than they are. They are on a pace to be the lowest scoring team in the last 20 years (or so I have read).

I think KD is thinking it sure would be nice to get an elite forward (Martone, Misa) in the draft. He's gonna move every vet he can and then the youth movement begins. Richardson won't be the coach next season, but I doubt he'll get canned this season. Fully expecting we'll be bad next year too (not as bad, but not gonna sniff the playoffs).

Yeah, I think KD is trying to walk this balance between building for the future and still selling hope of a better team in the present. He is making efforts these past two years to ice a competitive roster. I think the general feeling was last year was sunk by early injuries and off-ice problems (Hall, Perry). This year it's mostly just ineffective play, and how much of that to blame on coaching is up for debate. Regardless, there were hopes of competitiveness that could be sold to season ticket holders these last two years. Now that the results aren't there, I agree with you that KD probably isn't super disappointed to be in last rather than 25th, and he'll likely take this opportunity to say, "Hey, we tried, but now we'll pull the plug on this season. Just wait for next, though, with a new coach, a couple more pieces , and a shiny high pick we'll really start turning the corner." I tend to think we're gonna be stuck in the mud for quite a while.

They are just pretty boring to watch. I'm not sure if anyone cares, though, as I doubt many are watching.

Is that a product of being bad or of not being on Xfinity or both ? I like hockey so for me it's the Xfinity fiasco.
I still can't believe they went went into the whole switching channel process without any idea this was going to happen.

I switched from YoutubeTV to Fubo just to get the Hawks. But, they just aren't all that fun to watch. It would be nice if Richardson would stop switching up the lines so much. It seems like Bedard has new line mates every game. I can imagine that has contributed to his lack of scoring. Let the kid get some chemistry with the same guys.

Both, I think. I know several Hawks fans who have Xfinity and they are just not bothering to try HD antenna. I imagine if the Hawks were actually good or even at least entertaining they may put some effort in.

FWIW, getting the antenna situated correctly was a pain, and even then it still doesn't work all the time. When it is working fine, it's quite easy to switch inputs, so it's better than watching football on Prime. I'd say I'm watching the Hawks less than I would if they were on Xfinity, but I'm also at the point where I'd almost rather watch games the Hawks aren't involved in. That feels weird to write, but despite my fandom other teams are simply more entertaining.

That's exactly the category that I fall into.

I watch whenever I can. ESPN+ due to being out of market. But you're right, not many people are watching since the only way to get it in Chicago is over the air.

The hottest club in Chicago is Firing Your Coach Midseason

The Chicago Blackhawks fired coach Luke Richardson on Thursday after just eight wins in their first 26 games left them with the worst record in the league.

The team announced the move in a release, noting that Anders Sorensen, the coach of its AHL affiliate in Rockford, will take over on an interim basis.

It appears I was incorrect. Won't be the last time.

It is about time. Watching the game last night was so painful. I also am not used to hearing the cheers when the opponent scores on home ice like that in forever. The stands are empty, our youngsters are not improving (outside of Rockford), and Bedard looks completely lost. We needed this.
