Chicago Bulls 2016-2017

I have mixed feelings about Rose, but this is a VERY BAD trade for the Bulls.

I doubt both moves would happen, but weren't there reports last week that Coach Thibs was very interested in acquiring Jimmy Buckets for the T-wolves for their number one pick and some players? It's pretty clear that the whole thing needs to be blown up at this juncture, I'm just not sure Gar/Pax are the guys that can get it done. Those guys should have already been fired imo but Reinsdorf is notoriously loyal to his sports employees (witness Ventura and Williams with the White Sox).

It's not bad at all. He is in the last year of his contract and will be a free agent after next season.

Yep, not bad at all. People still think Rose is the 2010-2011 version of himself and he's just not. Multiple knee injuries have killed his burst and he played atrocious defense last year. He's always been a sub-par shooter and he will likely age much quicker as a result of injuries. His name recognition and the illusion of what he once was will command too much $ for what he's actually worth on the court now and in the future.

Combine that with the fact that as long as he is in Chicago, he's going to have the hometown thing hanging on the teams (and his) shoulders. Best to trade and get a good defending center on a bargain contract instead of letting Derrick walk in a year for nothing. On top of that they get a second year 6'5" first round draft pick PG.

If the Bulls are going to re-build and clear cap room this was a good first step.

If the Bulls did the T-Wolves deal, I'd be demanding that Wiggins be included along with their top draft pick. The Celtics have also been continuously linked with wanting Jimmy.

I agree that it needs to be blown up. If GarPax were smart they'd be trying to get a bidding war going between the Celtics and T-Wolves (and hope that maybe the Lakers get involved) but that's probably giving them too much credit and maybe me being too optimistic.

Any chance we send butler, our pick, Gibson or mirotic for lakers pick and get Ingram

That would be insane. You don't trade a 2-time All Star + picks and players for the #2 pick. The Celtics were rumored to have been offering the #3 + players for Butler and the Bulls already declined.

Yeah that would be horrible. We arent getting rid of Jimmy. We are making it his team. Side note: I think Ingram is going to be a bust anyway.

Id rather see us just go after Durant or something.

I'm not sure this is a given. I listened to Gar's press conference yesterday. He specificly refused to state that this was Jimmy's team and that they were committed to building around him. If they get the right offer for him, I think they blow it up.

Agreed. I think they would have to be giving up only Jimmy (no other players, and not the #14 pick or any future picks) and getting a high draft pick (i.e. top 5) this year plus future picks and/or quality NBA starters. And even then you have to really, really think about it.

If Klay Thompson was arguably the third best player on a team that fell short this year what makes anyone think its smart to build a team around Jimmy as the best player?

I want to blow it up, but I don't want this regime to be the ones to do it. Basketball hell.

Yup. If we're being charitable, the Bulls have four players signed beyond this year who could be rotation players on a championship caliber team. There's no way to stock the rest of the rotation solely through the team's draft picks and there aren't enough impact free agents (and none of those free agents have expressed any interest in the Bulls at all).

Why? If anything I think Simmons is much more likely to bust. Ingram has great shooting tough and amazing length. Put some weight on him and he could be scary good.

Simmons can't shoot and I don't see that changing much.

I don't think it's possible for Simmons to be a bust he has things that will at worst make him a starter for a long time.

6'10 can handle the ball and has a passing vision that can't be taught.

He averaged 19 and 12 as a freshman with poor coaching and not too much interest. Him and Embiid will be fun to watch.

I think you are correct. I originally didn't think they would get rid of both Rose and Butler at the same time but listening to Gar's presser it did sound like if the right deal came up the Bulls would be game, which is the way it should be. I thought the Bulls might just struggle through this year and use all of Rose's cap space next season, but they must have seen value in what the Knicks offered in the trade. I personally am not that familiar with the players the Bulls received yesterday. I did see by making the trade (as opposed to keeping Rose and letting him walk after next year) they gain about a million $ in cap space this year but lose about 15 million in potential cap space next year.

Rumors circulating now about Bulls trading Butler to Lakers for #2 pick.

Ingram is way different than Dunn.... Ingram can be way better than butler and grow with the team and fit with hoiberg.... Just wait
