And Caratini. Cubs backup catchers have a total of two (2) hits this season.

The bullpen lost 3 of the last 4 games in the late innings. If they begin to revert to norm, start the garage sale. They'll get the most for Kimbrel. Early season MVP candidate and All Star 3rd Base leading vote getter, Kris Bryant, average is down to .261 and dropping dramatically each day in June. When Baez is up to bat in a clutch situation it's not IF he will strike out but how many pitches it will take. God Bless Riz but the back will be an issue with him from here on out and he wants to be paid for his past performance.

I pray that I'm wrong. Just frustrated. How did these guys get so bad since 2015-2017 or is it just the way baseball has changed since then with less offense ?
It is too bad considering those guys played a huge role in the team's past success, but I don't see any point in signing any of them now. Rizzo is middle of the road at best in terms of offense for first basemen.

Austin Romine is a perfectly adequate back up catcher. He just hasn’t been healthy all year and may not play again this season due to a wrist injury.

I think we’re starting to see that “the bullpen must be perfect for four innings every night” isn’t a sustainable plan.

Bryant is hitting 114/205/241 for the month of June. That’s pitcher bad. I’m worried that he’s hurt again.

Baez is hitting 143/195/351 for June. That’s a hilariously high SLG for as seldom as he makes contact. He’s never been a disciplined hitter, but it looks like he’s not even trying to do anything but hit every pitch to the moon right now. 35 Ks in his last 82 plate appearances.

Agreed. They should have cleaned house last offseason and brought in a new voice but decided to keep Hoyer instead who was the GM who created the mess in the first place.

I still say the biggest part of the mess lies with an ownership that won’t let one of the richest teams in one of the largest markets with its own television network spend like it.

There’s no reason this team should be 11th in the Majors in payroll, behind the Cardinals and Padres, among others, with only $45MM in guaranteed contracts next year.

The Ricketts suddenly shut off the money tap after the 2018 season and nobody can really explain why.

Completely agree with the payroll; they should be top 5 in spending year in, year out. What I will say is that I'm glad there is so much money coming off the books because this team clearly needs a reset and I have no desire to see everyone extended

Looks like our pitching staff may have been put together with spider tack... We are making the light hitting Brewers look like the "Murderer's Row Yankees."

Regarding the trade deadline, is there anyone left hoping we are buyers? After the last week, I'm ready to trade them all.

We get through June and the schedule starts getting much easier for us and tougher for the Brewers. Unless we totally collapse in the second half of this month, it is going to be extremely difficult for us to be sellers at the trade deadline. Whether that's good or bad in the big picture remains to be seen.
I guess that answers that question. The only guy that is certain to be on the roster next year is Jason Heyward.

I don’t think this is a guarantee at this point. They could release him if he keeps playing like he’s played this year. They’d still be on the hook for his salary, of course. Maybe work out some settlement where he gets paid off over 20 years.

FWIW:

Franchise record losing streak is 16, losing the last 2 games of 1996 and the first 14 games of 1997.

The 14 from 1997 is the longest streak within a single season.

The last time they lost more than 9 in a row was 12 in 2012.

All the more odd is that this losing skid followed the no-hitter of the Dodgers (who have been undefeated since).
