Another nice start by Boyd today. I liked the signing when it happened this winter, and so far so good — 0 ERs in 2 starts (11 IP I think). With his injury history, likely looking at the majority of his starts not going beyond 6 IP. I can live with that if he keeps Cubs in games consistently.

I’ve seen enough of Ryan Presly pitching the 9th. He doesn’t have good enough control and doesn’t have good enough stuff.
fair enough, but that inning was over. Turner really blew it. Can't be doing that in those key spots.

That's on the manager. Turner is not a 1B and should never have been there in a clutch situation.

Is Colin Rea still on the team?

Valid question. I figured they were going to use Thielbar in the 5th to get the lefties out and then pitch Rea for as long as he could go.

It’s only 12 games in, but Rea is making $6mm this year, he’s on pace for about 40 innings pitched and, as far as we know, completely healthy.

That signing didn’t make sense at the time, doesn’t make sense with how the roster’s constructed, and the manager doesn’t seem to know what to do with him. I don’t like it when the front office and coaching staff don’t seem to be on the same page.

And they pitch him today for 2 perfect innings in a very low level situation. I don't get it.

He threw 40 pitches his last outing. Would seem to have had enough time to come back sooner, but maybe his arm didn’t bounce back quick enough.

I actually liked the signing. Pretty decent and relatively cheap insurance if a SP goes down, and gives us a RP who can go multiple innings. I would have liked them to get a better closer, but I think the pen can be pretty good. Hopefully Pressly can improve his control, but if not, as someone pointed out, have Hodge in the wings.

no that is on turner, but I understand the point. I wouldn't have had him out there either. but he has played quite a few games at first base.

He's 40 years old and was playing a position that he's played less than 10% in his career (based on total games played). It was a stupid decision to have him in there and it cost them. Especially given the fact that Busch PH in the previous inning and could have easily been put there.

I agree. Turner missed the ball. It’s not like the error was on a nuanced part of playing D at 1B. He just flat out missed the ball. Not sure why Counsel didn’t put Busch in after pinch hitting, but not catching the ball on what was maybe a tick harder than a routine play is on Turner.

Nice outing by Steele last night.

Jameson Taillon is the least athletic MLB player I've ever seen.

He also has to stop starting. There are 12 better starting pitchers in this organization RIGHT NOW than this clown.
He may have been our best pitcher this evening. If not him Pressly.

How crazy does that sound?

Go Cubs Go!

Cubs have the biggest division lead in all MLB, 2 games over Milwaukee.

Being a Cub fan I have to be honest. My pre-season prediction was to finish second in the division, and a game or two out of the final wildcard spot. Of course I hope that they do much better than I predicted.
