You have Dansby attempt to steal 2nd to get into scoring position. If successful, he scores on a single. That was easy...
No, Washington would have walked Busch which would have put runners on at 1st and second and take their chances on getting Tucker out, which they did. CC’s strategy was solid last night. Boyd pitched well but Washington pitchers were better which happens. Just win the game tonight and everything will be ok.

Here is the problem. Pitchers are used to pitching every 5th day. Starting pitchers are a creature of habit. I doubt they would want to pitch every 6th day. It will take away from their amount of starts and many have incentives built in on games pitched and wins. The players union would not allow it.
Players union wouldn't allow it? Huh? A couple of teams do it every year at some point during the season. This is not groundbreaking.
Off days will be way more scarce for the rest of the season.

The Cubs are 15 over without Steele and missing Imanaga since May 05. How about that? The flubs are back baby. Just need Epstein to grab a frontline starter and another bullpen arm.
Epstein? I think you're in the wrong decade brother.

That said, Jed Hoyer should be agreeing with your assessment. Not sure how much of the farm system that he wants to cough up.

Yes. I had acknowledged that after I posted. Hopefully though they keep playing like they are back in that decade.

My bad. Didn't see it, but I was just messing with you in any event.

The reality of this season is two fold:

1)The division is flat out bad. The Cubs will win comfortably without making a huge splash.

2)One starter will not put them over the top. They need two and that's assuming Imanaga comes back strong, then Boyd and Taillon prove then can go the full 162 at a high level.

If I'm Hoyer, I'm not emptying out my farm system for this season UNLESS they're dedicated to bringing Tucker back. At that point, you're not overly worried about guys like Alcantara, Caissie, etc, which is what the return a trade partner would want. To go and get a proven 1A arm, guys like Shaw, Horton and Ballesteros would also be part of the discussions. I don't think the Cubs will go down ANY of those paths.

This next month is tough. Just 4 easy ones against the Pirates.

I have faith in the ability to score runs, but something tells me the starting pitching takes a beating this month.

Would be nice to go out and get aggressive and acquire a starting pitcher or two. Dodgers have enough pitching injuries that the Cubs could potentially battle their way to a top 2 seed in the playoffs and avoid having to play in the first round.

31 out of the next 35 against teams over .500.
The Cubs are looking for 20-15 out of this stretch. That would put them at 21 over .500 at the end of it.

The starting pitching is going to be severely tested. Imanaga will be back just in time because I'm not sure how much longer they can lean on Rea and both youngsters. They weren't supposed to be key cogs in the rotation. Rea's numbers looked good yesterday, but it was one of those fortunate outings where the Nats were hitting bullets right at people and they got two guys tossed out at second with less than two outs.

This stretch will determine Hoyer's moves at the deadline.

It'll be interesting.

100 games remaining in the ridiculously long season. I think that the playoffs should start with wildcard teams tomorrow. Everyone is off today.

They're not out of it, but Littell with the Rays is being brought up as a trade candidate.

Though I expect the asking price for him to be really high.

Hard to imagine us scoring a run against Skubal. Dude looks tough. (Just trying to jinx him).

Love PCA’s aggressiveness, but that was a killer mistake on the bases. On replay, looks like the stop sign was put up late. Ouch.

The base running error by PCA still has me fuming. With no outs, how can you blow through the third base coaches stop sign, then stop and run back to the bag? Should have been 2nd and 3rd with no outs.
Was the third base coach’s fault, didn’t give him the stop sign until way too late.

Berry has made several mistakes.

The third base coach messed up as he first wa waving him in but changed his mind and put up the stop sign. PCA was already committed. The third base coach needs to make a quicker read of the situation. Since there was no outs, there was absolutely no reason to send him. We gave up a possible big inning with that blunder. Happ also pulled a Kris Bryant and hit the ball in front of the runner with less than 2 outs. Tucker bailed him out thank God. The failed steal by Shaw was a bad break.. That ended up costing us a run. Last night everything went Detroits way. Let’s turn the table today and tomorrow.

I'll buy that and put it on the 3rd base coach. After rewatching, he did put PCA in a tough spot. At absolute minimum there, PCA needs to get into a rundown to get Swanson over to third.

I posted that last night in a fit of rage. Lol The third base coach does need to understand the situation better. With 2nd and 3rd with no outs, Skubel would have been feeling more pressure staring at PCA on third

Meh, let's try to get game 2.
