Embarrassing day at the plate for Seiya.

Swung at another pitch in the left handed batter's box to K.

Through the first 3 games of the Cardinal series the Cubs increased their run differential over the birds. It's a crappy stat IMHO. W-L is the only one that counts
In a 3 game stretch it's a crappy stat yes. But over 162 games, it gives a DECENT idea of how good a team is. Still not a great stat, though, I agree.

This series ended up working out. Imanaga coming back changes everything. If they can go out and get one more starter, they can get Rea out of the rotation and everything looks better. They kept that rotation together with spit and glue and it was starting to falter.

As a side note, that St. Louis attendence was awful. Not sure I've seen a Cubs vs Cardinals series that poorly attended.

In relation to W-L, every stat is kinda crappy. I tend to think run differential is pretty instructive as far as other team stats go. You'd rather be the team that scores a lot more than they allow, than one who cobbles together wins with smoke and mirrors...
It's pretty rare that a team outside the top 5 in that stat wins the WS. (The Cubs were #1 in that stat in 2016...The Dodgers were #1 last year)

Not clear to me why you'd want to schedule day games in St. Louis in summer. Chicago is hot enough, but I lived in St. Louis for 12 years way back, mostly without air conditioning! Humidity capital of the midwest. I saw a lot of empty seats.

Busch Stadium holds 46,000 people. They were under 30,000 in 2 of the 4 games. Today was the largest announced crowd at 32,000.

Pretty bad.

agreed, the two biggest long term predictors of winning are runs scored and era. This stat is about as close to that as you can get. There are tons of stats out there that people push to the front of predictors but it is a game of scoring runs and not allowing runs from a W/L perspective.

Great job by the boys to split this series. For the first time almost all year it felt like a slump was in the making. This team has been great so far at not really nose diving. worst stretches have been like 4-6 or 5-5. That works through the tough parts of the schedule.

A series win against the 'Stros would be massive and great way to finish off the month.

Brown is the guy you take out of the rotation and put him in the pen. He will be an asset there. I believe we have Horton, Rea and Taillon going this weekend. With a day off on Monday, Boyd will get the start on Tuesday in Cleveland with Imanaga going Wednesday and Horton going on Thursday.

Agreed.

Brown has great stuff, but seems to be limited by only having 2 pitches. He can do well in a bullpen role with that, but even a moderately effective third pitch would elevate his potential as a starter.

He does have great stuff but only two pitches. He needs to get a third or 4th pitch to be a solid starter but I have always said that he is better off as a late game guy until he can develop another pitch or two.

I’d send him down to learn straight change and splitter. Another injury is likely so he can learn the pitches and come back up ready to help.

Unhappiness is when every team in your division wins except you. :(

Hoyer is looking like a buffoon trading Cam Smith right now. 2 homers in two nights against the team that drafted him and traded him away before he played 1 inning. He’s got star written all over him

Smith has massive potential, but Tucker is having a far better 2025. Wouldn't let one game cloud that reality. Both parties should be happy with the trade; Cubs in the present, Astros for the future (Cubs now and later if they can re-sign Tucker long-term).

My prediction is if the Cubs were to win the World Series this season, Tucker is gone. If they don't win it all, they'll resign him.

Perhaps more of a rationalization for me, haha.
Shaw, Tucker and Smith's careers are going to forever be tied together. I hope that Hoyer and Ricketts had a heart to heart before the trade was made because Smith is going to be(already is) a damn good ball player and Tucker is going to be an All Star every year....it just has to be in Chicago.

You're right though, if they win a World Series.....it's a Cubs win regardless of the off-season decisions.
