Not for nothing, as I'm just a young pup at 35-years-old, but weren't Banks, Santo, Williams, Hundley, and Jenkins all members of the greatest Cubs collapse of all time in 1969?
Yes, and that year was similar in that the Mets just couldn’t lose, so every loss was amplified.

Incompetence hired by incompetence. When it's the same terrible decision makers up top, only the names of the scape goats change
The hitting coach is the same guy who had these guys scoring 6 runs per game for the first two months + of the season. Blaming him his nonsense.

Guys just aren't getting the job done. Period. Players like Happ, Tucker and Swanson have been doing this WAY too long to pin their terrible performance on a bench coach.

At what point to the players get the blame?

While I don't think the Reds will make a big run to knock the Cubs out of the wildcard, it's slowly entering the orbit of possibility.
Only 4.5 games up on the Reds in the WC…

If they went to all day games again, they could blame on being tired from all the heat. Just like in '69.🤪😝

that Happ, Tucker back to back strikeout is just brutal and the perfect glimpse into the last month or so.
I hope we tweak the lineup today. I like the idea of Hoerner, Busch, Suzuki, Tucker, Shaw, PCA, Caissie, Swanson, Kelly. We need to get more AB;s to Hoerner and Shaw. Happ needs the weekend off. I like the idea of the first 7 guys righty lefty which balances the lineup.

They just mentioned on the broadcast that the Cubs have not won a single game since July 2nd where they trailed at any point in the game.

Suzuki strikes out on an awful call.

Sadly, Suzuki can't complain because he's just as bad at his job as this umpire.

This is getting really bad... sliding off of bases, getting thrown out taking extra bags.. ran into like 4 outs today. The hitting is just so, so bad. Dog days of August for sure.

Haha. He was batting cleanup. And, as was duly noted above by @Mr. Roberts, the person making that decision makes $8 MIL per year.
And the person who we wouldn't trade sat on the bench.

Yes, how is Hoerner not leading off every game when you have your everyday leadoff hitter get taken out when a lefty comes in?

It’s frustrating how this lineup is constructed. Our best hitters now are batting near the bottom of the order. Hoerner, Shaw and now PCA after today, but on a separate note, how do you slide off the bag that badly? Counsell is pushing the wrong buttons right now.

Today is the day I stopped caring about the 2025 cubs. If they don’t, why should I.
