OK, I can't help myself, these lineups are driving me nuts. WRT to the Cub lineup, I think there are several realities that Counsel has to accept. His players have limitations and/or are broken right now. So, stop using a lineup that is not working. Please. Craig, until certain players remember how to hit, .....

1) If you play Happ, it has to be as leadoff or ninth. He still walks a ton, so has a good OBP even though he hasn't hit. But he can't hit in the middle of the order - he is just not a run producer, never has been.
2) Bat Hoerner second for now. Face it, he is currently your best hitter. Get him more ABs.
3) Bat Busch 3rd or 4th - he is about the only one currently driving in runs. He is wasting one AB a game as leadoff.
4) Move PCA down to 7th. He hit well there, less pressure, less expectation, less frequency. You need his D, but get him out of cleanup.
5) Move Shaw up to 5th or 6th. Not into the "pressure" roles of cleanup or the 3 hole - but move hiim out of 9th.
6) Split up Suzuki and Tucker. It's broken - accept it and stop trying to force it.
7) Play Caissie every day until he stops hitting - sit Tucker, Happ, Suzuki, and Armstrong once or twice a week each.
8) Tucker's woes have now entered his fielding. You can't just put him out there and expect success. Let the kid play every day in right.

So - I say a base lineup of Happ, Hoerner, Busch, DH, Caissie, Shaw, PCA, Swanson, and Catcher (with DH mainly being Suzuki or Tucker) is about the best you can make of this mess right now. Subject to change if any of them start to hit again.

Glad I could help.

That is a good take, and I agree. What I don't understand is why Counsel cannot see this. He may not be the manager that many think he is. The front office should take a long look at the possibility of him not being the right fit.
Many of the things mentioned above seem to be beyond his ability to comprehend or even consider. Is he being controlled and constrained by the front office? It appears that what you state above is too logical for him and or the front office.

I'm sure you have read or heard that Schwarber has homered in 15 consecutive series. That news has been everywhere.

I'm sure that you have read or heard that half of the Cubs haven't done squat since the ASB. That news has also been everywhere.

Come on Cubs, get hot again! Remember this season when trailing by 5 runs meant nothing? Now it means that they will lose by 4 or more.

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bieber was
You’re right. That was actually his second start LAST year before he got hurt. He’s slated to go tomorrow against Marlins. His last rehab start he threw 6 or 7 shutout innings at AAA.

Being in Ohio, I see a fair amount of Clev and Cincy games on TV and have always liked Bieber. Rooting for him to do well. Wish I was rooting for him to do well in a Cubs uniform. As we’ve seen with Boyd, can do a lot worse than grabbing pitchers from Cleveland. Unfortunately Elijah Morgan hasn’t worked out (he was damn tough last year), but how much of that was because of injury. Just saw he pitched a perfect inning (13 pitches, 10 strikes, 3 ground outs) at South Bend yesterday in his first rehab appearance. He might yet be able to help Cubs down the stretch.
Bieber straight up dealt tonight too.

Hitting a solo HR and then striking out with the bases loaded and nobody out is a wash at best.

As of 822/25, Cubs 74-55 (19 over .500), they should at least play 1 game over .500 with 33 to go. So if they win 16, they win 90 games. So, if they do not make the playoffs, what should they do?

With that schedule, a .500 record would be pathetic

what are we talking about? If the cubs collapse and miss the playoffs should they rebuild? Why is this where we are as fans?

A.)cubs are gonna make the playoffs for like the last 3 months they have been considered above a 98% of making it in Vegas, currently 99.5% chance on fangraphs.

B.) team has won 7 of its last 9

C.) I'm not sure when Cub fans got so pessimistic but it isn't what this fanbase should be thinking about when we are having such a strong year.
