uh oh
Certainly not a surprise move especially with Amaya healthy, but I’d like to think more than 2 percent of Cubs’ fans have heard of Reese.uh oh
they non tendered a guy I never heard of , nor 98% of the other fandom ever heard of
what happens next ?
With all due respect, the guy played quite a lot last year and wasn't all that bad. 45 games (starting most of them) with 9 HR's. You never heard of him?uh oh

He had like 10 HRs in about 150 ABs. Also had a stretch when he hit 3 HRs in about a week.Certainly not a surprise move especially with Amaya healthy, but I’d like to think more than 2 percent of Cubs’ fans have heard of Reese.
Solid signing. Cubs need to rebuild that bullpen.Signed Phil Maton. Right-handed reliever. Guy’s been a solid reliever the last 3-4 years. Will reliably give 65-ish innings with an ERA just above 3.
He's kind of infamous in the league (and on YouTube) too. With all due respect, the guy played quite a lot last year and wasn't all that bad. 45 games (starting most of them) with 9 HR's. You never heard of him?
Not sure you watched a ton on games? He was critical when Amaya got hurt. He was as solid as one could rationally expect out of a guy they pulled up from AAA with a career that was/is really hanging on by a thread. He had some huge hits and was solid defensively. I'm by no means saying that there's going to be a huge market for him this off-season, but he did much more than expected when Kelly needed a day or two off during the week.uh oh

I didn’t . I don’t get Marquee anymoreNot sure you watched a ton on games? He was critical when Amaya got hurt. Actually, who has Carson Kelly on their bingo cards for saving and solidifying the catching position when Amaya got hurt? He was phenomenal and a borderline All Star at the break.
JEd works with the budget he's handed and while some moves are questionable.....give credit where it's due here.
Besides Contreras, Soto had some good years for us. Can't forget Montero's contributions in 2016, as well (even if he didn't leave on best terms if I remember correctly).I didn’t . I don’t get Marquee anymore
my bad in not knowing him
i know Contreras gave us some good years around the championship, but other than him and a few good years outta Jody Davis , we haven’t had a pure stud catcher since Randy Huntley .
Am i forgetting someone ?
I just looked it up.Besides Contreras, Soto had some good years for us. Can't forget Montero's contributions in 2016, as well (even if he didn't leave on best terms if I remember correctly).
I hope they figure out he was just tipping his pitches....but that wouldn't explain his loss of velocity.
He is solid. Good strikeout to walk ratio.Signed Phil Maton. Right-handed reliever. Guy’s been a solid reliever the last 3-4 years. Will reliably give 65-ish innings with an ERA just above 3.
I think Amaya can be a solid receiver as his only holdback is he cannot stay healthy.I just looked it up.
since Hundley, the only catchers who have made the AllStar team are Jody Davis, Michael Barrett and Wilson Contreras
we just never seem to get that 4 or 5 tool stud catcher
What? Dude played every 3 or 4 days this year and actually had a couple clutch games. Overall he wasn't good, but I get annoyed at this kind of rhetoric. Dude played a role this year when Amaya went down.uh oh

On the World Series team, David Ross did his part.I didn’t . I don’t get Marquee anymore

from my post aboveOn the World Series team, David Ross did his part.
As far as studs..... I'd agree with you. We haven't had an All Star catcher(not sure if Contreras was an All Star) since.....Joe Girardi?
It definitely hasn't been a position of strength, though I do think Amaya is going to be a super player....IF he stays healthy. That seems to be a hurdle with him throughout the minors and into last year.
Rick Wilkins had one crazy good year. Just one though.Besides Contreras, Soto had some good years for us. Can't forget Montero's contributions in 2016, as well (even if he didn't leave on best terms if I remember correctly).
They really had some light-hitting catchers in the seventies. Add Dave Rader and Larry Cox to that list. Although I was at a game at Wrigley as a kid and saw Rader hit a walk-off opposite-field grand slam against the Mets. I'm thinking it was around '78 or so.At least none of our catchers run back to the dugout after he strikes outs like Steve Swisher did.
