I obviously am not at that point in salary, but personally if I was at $3M/year the idea of a raise to $4M or $5M would still not be enough for me absent other factors. I’ve always had this discussion with my wife that I’m not sure I’d want to live in that much bigger of a house or drive that much nicer of a car even if I made a big factor more than what we’re making today.People underestimate this, especially those who aren't married or don't have kids.
I could be offered a 50% raise or more, and my wife and kids would NOT move. Granted, I'm not talking about going from $3M to $4.5M annually, but it's always relative. Having a place where you enjoy working and where your family enjoys living is worth quite a bit to many people.
Doubling your salary but not enjoying the people you work for/with and/or having your family pissed off and/or miserable is not a good tradeoff for many people once you hit a certain point in your life.
Much as I find the man a loathsome despicable toad, he would probably be pretty good there. The guy can coachIf Only PEARL would take it
From the initial breaking of Cal to Arkansas, I told my brothers that I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Beard ultimately took this job. I’m becoming more confident in that assertion the farther we go with this.and they may be contacting Beard soon. Its not like Ole Miss is his ultimate destination for very long
Is accepting the job or being too good for the job and turning it down more validating? If Brad gets offered, he's gone. Too many positives, namely $ and the fact it would validate him as an elite coach. Don't underestimate the importance of ego in these types of decisions.
Yeah...If Brad gets offered, he's gone. Too many positives, namely $ and the fact it would validate him as an elite coach. Don't underestimate the importance of ego in these types of decisions.
Truly a joy!Watching Kentucky strike out several times fills me with schadenfreude.
Some passing comments from Underwood and Whitman in the body of this article:
Richey | About that job in Lexington
Brad Underwood might not be the top candidate to take over at Kentucky, but it's foolish to think he's not somewhere on Mitch Barnhart's listwww.news-gazette.com
I mean, give the extra mil/year to the Illinois NIL fund. How selfish are you!I obviously am not at that point in salary, but personally if I was at $3M/year the idea of a raise to $4M or $5M would still not be enough for me absent other factors. At some point, how much more money do you really need to chase the lifestyle and generational wealth you’d really want? (Hypothetically speaking, of course)
Being the guy to hire Book Richardson and keep your name off the wiretaps is the sign of a college coach who knows what he's doing.Indy - curious your thoughts on Sean Miller’s ability to get high level players without Book Richardson. Based on all the FBI transcripts seems like he was the guy getting all the five star types for Sean at Arizona, and while he’s won elsewhere, he hasn’t had the same level of talent and success without Book Richardson. Maybe that wouldn’t be an issue at Illinois or Kentucky because he could get another assistant that knows how to get things done with 5 stars (TA?), but curious your thoughts.
Watching Kentucky strike out several times fills me with schadenfreude.
Numerous sources now reporting that Scott Drew has turned down Kentucky.
Think they take one more swing at Hurley and Oats then it gets interesting.
Matt Graves is new coach at Indiana State. Believe Indy called that one a few threads ago.
Agreed ... it might be wishful thinking, but I cannot imagine why Pearl wouldn't wind up there before Brad. Auburn is a worse program historically than Illinois (i.e., I would argue it's a bigger jump in "prestige" to Kentucky), and it just seems like Pearl's personality is tailormade for the UK pressure cooker.Bruce Pearl at Kentucky would definitely be a fit.
