Give how much NIL and the portal have changed the landscape of pretty much everything, where the advantage that the blue blood name would have McD's All American's sprinting to get there....it doesn't matter anymore. Kentucky blue has been replaced by NIL green.
Cal faltered because having the #1 high school prep class, while important, it's far less important. His team of NBA freshmen were coming up against teams of Juniors, Seniors and Grad Students and it's not working anymore.
Look at the names that we're seeing pop up on the Final Fours and look at some of the seeds.
Taking the fan pressure of that job makes no sense of your current institution gives you a huge pot of NIL money.
Alabama got to a Final Four(and gave UCONN their most difficult game) using NINE TRANSFERS. NINE!!
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that UCONN's roster wasn't was littered with All Americans. Maybe Castle?

You're a basketball coach making millions upon millions of dollars while being on TV and schmoozing boosters so you can get even more cash so people can root for kids wearing laundry that wins. Just admit that your wife likes her current gigantic house and your kids don't want to leave their friends at school.
I'd like to think the Almighty's probably got more on their mind than how high Baylor finishes in the BigXII standings.

The "hot seat" hot takes were obnoxious. We had a great year, but apparently it took winning one extra game for people to see that it was a great year? Trying to explain that was a fruitless effort.
A year later, the thought of BU being coveted by another team has created an element of panic.

My working theory on UK is that externally, Barnhart has to go after the big dogs, but internally, he really wants an Underwood-type program builder/stabilizer who can reset the culture.
