If I were a coach at Illinois, I would obviously be a lifer ... but I tried to think what (non-Illini) jobs I would leave for if I were the head coach of a comparable great-but-not-Blue-Blood job like Maryland or Ohio State ... I'm also pretending for a second that I really like my family/life setup in these places ... so take that out of the equation! Again, just my personal preference, but I honestly think these are the only ones:

1. Kansas ... I really like Lawrence, their fans seem RELATIVELY reasonable for a Blue Blood and you still have all of the history, resources and support you'd get almost anywhere else.

2. Texas ... I know we think of them as crazy, but their hoops fans actually do NOT have very crazy expectations, and they'd pay me bank. Full access to crazy NIL, brand new facilities and Austin is cool.

3. North Carolina ... Probably the most resources in the country? Plus I like that area.

Probably seems crazy, but none of the other Blue Bloods do it for me. UK fans are insane, Duke just doesn't seem like a fit for me, UCLA/Indiana/Louisville don't really provide that elite "leg up" that they used to, I have little interest in the Northeast/UConn, etc. I'd consider places like Georgetown or Villanova or Arizona or whatever, but unless the money was just GAME changing, I think the move alone would just make it not worth it.

Seems like Kentucky has a PR problem right now.

With the pay scales that exist, it's pretty easy for top guys to say no.

There are certainly credible good coaches out there but is Kentucky willing to hire them when the entire world knows they are the 7th choice?

So I think you back up the truck for Donovan. He would be fantastic for them.

No one has really addressed Buzz Williams, but I'd think he'd be a great hire for them.

Another name that wouldn't go over well with the fan base but could likely do a great job is Hoiberg.

Of course Beard.

IANAI,but I have thought all along that Donovan would be the hire, and the best one they could get. The fans would be more than OK with that, and he was one of the best college coaches in memory.

Why is Mark Few not being considered for UK? If they are willing to throw 10-12 mil at Hurley, wouldn’t a massive offer for Few make sense? Is it the worst kept secret in the sport that there is no job Few would be willing to leave Gonzaga for?

Undy would not be a good fit at UK, not the persona they're looking for.

UK has the most delusional fans on the planet ... I also never trusted Mitch to get his top target when Cal eventually left or was fired ...

Lot of coaches are not big fans of that dude ...

Mitch and Brad would probably not get along ... And that MATTERS ...

People can talk about facilities, NIL and all this other stuff ... Brad's relationship with Josh is the MOST important thing that we have to offer ...

Coaches win games ... Administration wins championships ... PERIOD ... 💯

I 100% second them as the most delusional. I have some family and friends who are UK fans. I’m also having an amazing time antagonizing Big Tim on Twitter.

I've heard OA wants to stay at UK if he can ... Does not sound like he wants to be at Arkansas ...

Chin ... If he goes to Arkansas ... LOL ... That's all I've gotta say ...

I have heard Kenny Payne is likely to join Cal at Arkansas ...
Orlando has $400,000 reasons to stay at Kentucky at least until June 30, 2024:
Orlando Antigua (associate coach): $900,000 for July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024 making him the highest paid assistant coach in the country. . If Antigua is still on staff at the end of June, he will be owed a $400,000 “retention bonus,” per the terms of his contract.

Is $10 million the floor for Hurley’s next contract? Feels like it.

Based on what I have read online recently, a lot of their fans would react to Golden as if they had just hired John Groce
I went to Illinois for undergrad and Florida for grad school. Illinois is a basketball school. Florida is a football school (yes we currently suck). Golden has done a nice job at Florida but leaping in to the expectations of the UK delusional fan base would destroy him. BU has figured out the new portal landscape and would be home run for UK. Hope it doesn’t happen and he leads us to a long awaited Championship.

I guess I should feel lucky that they think Pope is ahead of Underwood on their list
