maybe don't want to look at Illini Inquirer (nee Illiniboard). I used to read that as much as this, but got to be such a cesspool. Thanks, Dan

(clearly late to the forum with my response!)
Exactly why I came over here from Illini Inquirer several months ago. The majority were decent posters, but there was a core group of very grumpy people. And the oddest thing - they were grumpier after a win than after a loss. Go figure! This board is an oasis of tolerance if you ask me.

f campas?Associate HC** ...

Brads got a list ... He always has a list ...

One name I've heard could be a target if we had an opening: Luke Yaklich ...
Can an Associate HC recruit of campus? What are their duties?

To be honest, I think the jury is still out on Hubert Davis' actual coaching ability. There are games where I think he's great, and there are games where I'm sitting at the TV looking like this with some of his decisions.

Having the # 1 ranked team pre season 1-2 years ago and missing the NCAA Tourney was eye opening to me about his coaching skill..

Time will tell on Davis and Scheyer. Kevin Ollie flamed out fast at UCONN after National Championship. The change to NIL and Portal has neutralized the Duke, Kansas, KY, UNC recruiting advantage. Signing 3 McDAA every year who go to NBA or transfer means you are playing talented freshman vs SR transfer portal teams like Illinois. Nobody would have predicted unlimited transfers and NIL would have leveled the playing field.

Elite 8 blue bloods - Duke
Elite 8 others - UConn (Newton, Spenser) , Illinois (TSJ, Marcus, Quincy), Tennessee (Knecht) , NC State (5 transfer starters), Clemson Alabama (4 transfer starters)

Would’ve been nice to have gotten Boynton or Antigua if we’re losing an assistant

Boynton is still on the table from my understanding ... Has not been officially announced at Michigan ...

Antigua potentially as well ... He's been back channeling ever since Cal accepted Arkansas job ... He took the guaranteed job last night but I have been told and have heard from coaches that Antigua is open to other opportunities ...

This was my initial thought when an insider posted that there was some discontent from one of the assistants. I don't remember if it was indy or Illini0440.

Do we know this is for a head coach position? And our entire AC staff left for other AC roles.
Well no, but our insiders have hinted at it for awhile. Or at least that someone may leave for a promotion.

So, this would be a lateral move for one of our assistances.

Yep. But I think the issue at blood bloods is a bit more relying on prep players than the NIL. It's hard for them to not take the 5 stars.

I was watching the Bulls/Knicks the other night, and the announcers were just going off on the lack of defense they are allowed to play. I don't know why the league thinks a game should be in triple digits in the 3rd quarter... I fail to see why it is better.

True roundball fans know that the NBA is NOT better with their lack of defensive play. Good defense is a thing of beauty and it makes the times when the offense scores more meaningful.

It’s similar to baseball in this respect: Good pitching works against baseball offense... but good pitching itself is a thing of beauty. And as stated above, when the offense in baseball does score it is more meaningful when the pitching is sound.

In other words, bad pitching is like throwing batting practice during real games and everybody gets a home run. So what is the value of a home run off bad pitching? Very little in terms of lesser worth if everyone’s doing it. But a homer off a great pitcher means something.

About the time Jordan left the Association, things began to change and defense was starting to be ignored. And the Game has suffered. While today’s players are in many ways superior to those of previous eras... the Game itself is not as good as it was when great defense was played in the NBA. Yes... there actually was such a time for a while.

Old Bulls fans know that. Ask Jerry Sloan and Norm Van Lier and Bob Love and Artis Gilmore and Michael and Scottie... or better yet, the guys who were being guarded by them. Sloan and Van Lier in particular were defensive demons that drove NBA guards crazy.

Today’s NBA is a pinball scoring orgy.

As long as we don't take back Antigua. Most of his players sucked and it's no coincidence our team took off while Kentucky fell back after his career move.
